Intro: Now I'm sure this has been said many o' times, and don't flame me becuase this is the first time I've been on the forums in months JUST for this issue. Now theres a lot of stuff I can put up with this game(lag, bad grenade throwing, 2ft fall damage etc.) But the one thing that grinds my gears are the LAV's physics. Let's leave out the "OMGZZ the update is coming out this month they cant fix it now!!" Congratulations im aware of this. Im writing this thread because I want to have mature discussion, on mine and others criticisms on the LAV.
Gripe: The things i dont like about the LAV first off is I dont know if these maps are made of ice or they put no-stick spray on the baldest tires known to mankind. Case in point the traction on the LAVs need a big boost. Second off LAVs shouldnt be catching so much air, I remember last night I couldnt have been going over 30mph and hit a levee and i did a 720 and probably had about 4 seconds air time. Last of all the control layout for not only all LAVs but the HAV too. CCP never never never ever put the throttle and the steering on the same joystick!! There are unused buttons while in the land vehicles, take advantage of that. There are also many classic buttons used for throttle. X, Left analog(without steering) R2, L1) I pray that this will be fixed. Putting the acceleration and the steering on one button does not allow natural driving.
This is the end of what I wanted to say, and like I said if your not going to be mature about then dont bother commenting here. |

There's 1 HUGE assumption you're making that probably isn't applicable.
Earth-equivalent gravity. |

Really?
Which "everything else" in particular is it disproportionate to?
Heavily armoured infantry can jump higher than more unarmoured people on Earth can manage. HAVs don't fall anywhere near as quickly and get much more airtime than similarly-sized tanks in the real world. |

I have to admit this is a good point. Relative gravity certainly would make the physics make more sense. However, I've not seen this specifically stated as intentional, so if this is the case, I would like to be told about it. I DO however, agree with you about the steering. |

Regarding traction, have you trained up the skills for LAV? I always assumed it fishtailed as much as it did because the driver wasn't skilled enough to drive and was over correcting. Though tbh it's much more enjoyable to power slide and reverse lav orientation as it is now for me (no LAV skill).
At least I found training turret operation caused those to be more responsive. |

I have to agree about the LAV handling.
1. Bad idea to put the accelerator and steering on the same stick. 2. Turns are not realistic assuming every planet we fight in has Earth-level gravity. CCP said they are interested in letting us fight in low-gravity environments, so that's telling me that we are stuck with Earth-level gravity for now because they haven't confirmed if they did that already or not. 3. What? I lost all my shields while hitting a pole at just 10 MPH? Someone please contact the manufacturer of those poles and make them build tanks instead. |

40 m/s is roughly 88 miles per hour, now think about what you are saying in those terms |

Most of the turns are taken at full speed, or 88 mph, add on speed mods and you quickly top 100 mph, drifting and exploiting your speed is easy in this game |

forget acceleration. some brakes would be nice. Right now all you can do is decelerate with reverse and stay still with the hand brake. |

I agree strongly with all the above except the control stick complaint. - I much prefer having the throttle and steering on one stick BUT i completely support having a different control layout for the folks who hate it-- so yes that part i agree-- CCP please give us the option of different steering/throttle configuration.
Also, interesting point by others about this possibly not being Earth gravity. OK fine, so we are playing beta on only one planet right now with lower than earth gravity [cause the physics are the same every time]? Once we get to an earth-like or larger mass planet i better experience some actual traction with the ground lol:) (com'on we all know this wasn't intentional by CCP lol. it still needs to be fixed).
And to clarify, atm you can spin out a LAV moving at very low speed, not just at high speed cornering. - Eg. even when you are just beginning to accelerate from a stop and are NOWHERE NEAR even quarter speed of a LAV you can hit a small bump and have the vehicle spun completely backwards as if it was a simple block sliding on ice-- seemingly no calculation for wheels traction on ground at all. - It looks ridiculous and is extremely frustrating for game play.

Personally I would just like to steer with the right stick. That would literally solve all of my control problems with the LAV. If you can't control the turret while driving the camera function is mostly worthless. Harder braking would also be nice. |
