Yep, Scrambler is an Amarrian design, like the Laser Rifle.
Amarr have this thing for beam weapons, lasers in particular. Something about cleansing heretics with purifying light, that sort of thing.
The scrambler fits, since its part laser and part plasma weapon - an Laser Induced Plasma Channel (LIPC) weapon.
Basically the LIPC's laser portion drills a superheated and ionized tunnel of air to the target and the plasma bolt is fired behind it nanoseconds later, riding the path of the laser beam into the target. |

Judging by the name the flaylock pistol tears the round apart in order to fire it. This is what initially gave the impression it was minmatar. However it didn't change early guesses that it was going to be some form of a rocket pistol. One of the variants listed was homing.
Either way creativity on how the weapon works runs amok, some speculate its a hyper coil weapon which uses a spring under massive amounts of pressure being let go. Now to you this may not sound all that deadly but those those who flown combat aircraft know how much damage a slinky being held back by a couple tons can do when its suddenly decompressed around the metal rod it was surrounding.
It's a pretty big bore pistol, big enough for somethlike a gyrojet (rocket) pistol, yeah. I dunno, that big magazine size and big bore might also suggest to me that it is some form of shotgun (flaying the target ina hail of shot or flechettes), although that would not explain the homing variant adequately.
either way, looks like its a beast of a handgun, not some sissy handgun. ;) |
