Dropships need to be able to have survivability in games, so I agree they should have the capability to dodge missiles. So two things easy to do and make things even on the battlefield. Possibly three or four.
1) lower dropships movement speed to a rate that swarms can hit it if its going max speed 2) give a module they can fit that's an afterburner, 10-15 second boost of speed to run away, 10-15 second cooldown 3) possibly slightly buff the hp and/or resistances of the dropship so it can't get one hit popped 4) flares, a limited amount of flares, that can be resupplied via supply depot or nanohives. 5) make swarms a heavy weapon to make av a more heavy specific role (thus not everyone in game spawns with swarms at once)
I don't know, I like dropships being able to survive. I will still get my forge gun out though and blast you annoying bastards from the sky :) |

These seem like reasonable responses to the issue. I especially like that you've given dropship pilots a way to avoid swarms for a period of time but not one that will make them unhittable. Dropship pilots with some skill would be able to use the 10-15 second burst of speed to hide behind some terrain to avoid getting blasted. |

This is bad for balance. -1
- This makes them easier to hit with EVERYTHING, not just swarms. Also negates advantages over LAV.
- Already in game, it sucks.
- Agreed, but that's an overall trend I'd like to see for all vehicles.
- Sure why not.
- Absolutely not.

The advantage is that its In the air...can fly over the terrain. And, it simply makes them vulnerable part of the time instead of invulnerable all the time. Add to it flares...you're still in the same op ship, just 10% of the time you're mote exposed and you have to plan accordingly.
As for swarms being a heavy weapon, this is a balance in response to the other things. Makes less swarms available on the field, means less missiles to run from, means more survivability for dropship. Plus, any well organized team, your dropship is dead anyways usually. All this would do is make 90% of antivehicle a specialized role, meaning those that do it, will be good at it, and more balance with tougher dropships, less people shooting at them, flares to escape with. Downside...the av heavies that coordinate will still get you. |
