They use aurum a lot of the time... Aurum is the key. There is no other way. Then again, they might have stocked up on a LOT of proto gear when they had free isk from the EVE->Dust ISK transfer bug.

Ya, some may do that, but the majority of the people that us Proto gear fought a lot of matches to be able to skill into it. After all of those matches they end up with a ton of ISK. They don't sit there and blow it left and right on things they don't need. They run only 1 or 2 types of setups, they don't have a suit for every weapon type. And lastly, they know how to play. Generally those that can afford to run Proto all the time can because they are good at this game. Scrubs will be scrubs, so in effect, HTFU and earn it!
