I wanted to make a thread about the shows WE, as geeks/nerds and surveyor of all that is worthwhile, watch. This is selfish and to find more good TV/Cable series I haven't seen but should. Here is a list of the shows that have made my TV watching enjoyable. The type that makes me WANT to put down the controller and tune in, please share yours.
In no particular order:
Deadwood - an HBO series that has made me want to burn down the HBO studios since it was canceled. One of the best written and acted shows that has ever graced the air. If you don't like Al Swearingen then somethings wrong with you. Also one of the most creative shows involving the word "F".
Breaking Bad - This AMC show is in it's 5th and final season. There's a reason the two main actors have been ruling the golden globes, simply awesome. Sooo well written and acted, it's one of those shows that you actually go back and watch 20 years later because it's so good. On Netflix Instant, all except 5th season of course.
Sherlock - This show is created by the BBC and on Netflix Instant. One of the shows you'll watch and go, "Why didn't I hear about this?". Very well written and blockbuster type cinematogrophy. It is going into it's 3rd series (American for Season) and each series is 3 episodes long at 1.5 hours each, so basically a mini-movie. Season two is awesome.
The Wire - yet another HBO series that is fantastic. I would rank this in the top 5 Cable TV shows I have ever seen. Covers the inner city of Baltimore, MD... cops, drug dealers, etc.
Dexter - A revolutionary SHOWTIME series that has a serial killer as it's "hero". Been watching this from beginning and have to say have enjoyed every episode. Ignore the "realism" of it and just enjoy it.
Big Bang Theory - CBS show that makes geeks/nerds "in". There's a reason it has one alot of awards.
Sons of Anarchy - FX show. If you can suspend your sense of reality for an hour it is a very good show. Alot of what makes American TV success; drugs, violence and sex.
Always Sunny in Philadelphia - If you want a show that will make you literally cry laughing sometime, this is it. One episode made me buy the season and re-watch a certain scene over and over again while i lay on the floor crying. Thought I would die from laughter.
Family Guy - If you haven't seen it you need to, 'nuff said.
Boardwalk Empire - While not one of HBO's best series, it is entertaining. If you like prohibition gangster period pieces this is for you.
Shameless - New season starts January 13th. It is a Showtime series but reimagined from the British version. Has William H. Macy in it and he kills. Good show.
Firefly - Should have been close to the top but dropped in my brain due to time off air. Such an original series. FOX was F'n stupid to cancel this gem, never been another like it imo. Can see it on Netflix Instant.
Will add more as I remember, 4am here and not thinking clearly. |
