For most tanks camping the redline, the problem ISN'T the redline, and ISN'T the tank.
The problem is that their missiles can outrange your draw distance.
You can't see them, you can't get someone close enough to see them, but they can use teammates OUTSIDE their redline to spot for them, and bombard you from stupid ranges.
Fix that, and they'll have to move forward. |

Draw distance on this build is huge, but it's not tied to targeting range. And yes, you CAN get a lock on a tank from outside your scan radius with Swarm Launchers if you have someone spotting for you, but you DO have a range limit with them, and even if you get a lock, sometimes the missiles won't reach the target - and NOT because they hit an obstacle, just because they vanish after flying a certain distance. Missile Turrets can fire further than Swarm Missiles can travel.

Large missile = larger payload = larger explosion = more effort to deliver.
It's reasonable to expect it to be more destructive, and maybe even slightly better range, but the range disparity is too much, imo.
There isn't ANY range cap AT ALL on Missile Turrets. SMALL OR LARGE.
That's also, imo, the core problem with Dropships. Small Missile Turrets should have about the same range as Swarms - maybe SLIGHTLY more. Give them identical range in terms of stats, and swarm pathing should ensure that they have to travel slightly further to reach a target anyway, meaning the effective range of the turret will still be larger, so it shouldn't even need that. And Large Missile Turrets should have slightly longer range than that. But again, ONLY A SLIGHT INCREASE.
Also, missiles fired from beyond draw distance NEED TO BE DRAWN IN. At the moment, it's pretty common for long-range missile fire to not even be visible until the explosion appears out of nowhere. |
