I figured it all out.
It's quite simple, really.
If you skill into weaponry from a brand new sentinel character, you instantly get level 4. Buy the skill book for HMG's, upgarde it as far as you can get. Know where that leaves you? At level 3 HMG skills.
And which AUR HMG is at level 3? The broadside.
Not sure if this is intended behavior. It seems like it's going to pigeon-hole people into these choices though, if they want to remain effective on the field in their first matches. There's not a whole range of weapons and tactics that can stand up to a Broadside, and this skill path (definitely not intuitive for new players) explains why the 'low level' matches devolve into scrubs with assault rifles trying to kill unstoppable tanks with broadside HMG's. |

Prevalence of broadside comes from it having prototype level damage stats with only advanced level fitting costs. That's supposedly getting fixed. |

then they need to fix ALL the AUR weapons in the game. All advanced AUR weapons have proto stats at advanced level |

From what I understand, they're supposed to, but they're supposed to also have proto level fitting costs. It's essentially getting a proto weapon early in terms of SP investment, but there are a couple (such as the broadside) that is a proto weapon early but also lower fitting costs, which is the error part that is supposed to be getting fixed. |

Hopefully they remove the lower PG/CPU complex modules as well or give ISK equivalents. |

When the game goes live you can buy AUR items with ISK, right?
But yea, the broadside thing sucks and they need to fix it. |

Just trying to CQC Heavies. Or bring a grenade. (I don't use the broadside) But IMHO the Codewish is 10 times worse, because of the range it has(It also has advanced level pg/cpu requirements), not to mention modded controllers that allow for rapid fire. |

The Broadside HMG, and one of the AUR Assault Rifles, have the high-tier stats combined with lower-tier PG/CPU costs.
EVERY other proto-quality weapon, whether it's ISK- or AUR-based, has proto-level fitting requirements. The only difference is that the AUR weapons don't cost ISK, and can be used with lower skill prerequisites than the equivalent ISK weapon.
Getting reduced fitting requirements makes these 2 AUR weapons (and only those 2, NOT the others which are only skill savings) OP compared with their equivalents, and also makes them effectively pay-to-win gear while there's no player marketplace. |
