I was absolutely over the moon when this game was announced, it sounded amazing and with such great ideas i genuinly thought it could be one of if not THE best console release ever. I still think that the links to EVE online etc are all brilliant ideas but to me it seems like so much thought has gone into these ideas and making this all work that the makers of the game have forgotten that first and foremost this is a first person shooter.
It is all a bit slow and laboured (no I am not expecting Call Of Duty style play) and while i realise that this is not just another MAG type game I think the makers could really learn something from the style of play that gamers experience in MAG. For me there is just something lacking with this game, OK it is still in BETA testing and yes it probably does have a long way to go but I always find the game slightly disappointing to play. I get really excited when i load it up and really look forward to getting into a match and then it all becomes a bit bland and boring.
I also think that unless you have a lot of time on your hands to play this game your never really going to be properly up there and involved with the game and the community. It takes a very long to time to earn points and unlock things and in some ways this is good because it increases the longevity of the game but for those that work full time and have families etc this game just does not allow them to play productively. Always going to be a long way behind and always going to struggle. This is an issue which will lose this game thousands of potential gamers.
All in all I am slightly disappointed, i expected great things from the gameplay and really all we got was a slightly average gaming experience backed up by some potential fantastic ideas. |

I totally agree, I find it hard to find the joy to play more than a few games a week as it is right now.. I hope the gameplay and other aspects of it will change as the beta turns into a final product for release. |

Regarding being always behind, you'll have that feeling in every game as with less game experience, you obviously will be less efficient. But, Dust has a CAP in how much SP you can gain each week. Thus, you will never end up being miles away behind a huge gamer. Also, you have passive skill points adding up at all times. On that specific point, Dust is pretty balanced. Despite what all those SP farmers will say.
I'll even add something. I consider myself a more than regular player. i have my 2000 kills on this beta and i often compare my SP amount with some of the biggest player in my corp. Such As Traky78 that plays a lot. And we saw yesterday that he has 400K SP more than me in rougly a month of playing. Wich is around 10-12% more SP than i have.
So. When i was saying that overall, hardcores will be rewarded for being hardcore even compared to regular, or regular++ player, i was right. It just doesnt appear in a week like in most games. |

Well you are only seeing a small portion of what the game will be. There is no connection to eve really yet. No player market. No pve. No FW. No planet/ district taking or defending. Spookier

The game will most likely be sped up next build when the performance increase is done. at the moment frame rates would be more noticeable if everything was faster. |

I definately do think that some of the issues are because we are in testing period still and things will be improved. I just want the makers to remember that this is a FPS not just the whole EVE connection thing |

The maps are too open and combat is rarely focused. One thing that made MAG battles so entertaining were the battle lines. Players were always fighting over one or two areas on the map. This made it so there was always action with a minimal amount of running.
In DUST, I spend half the f*cking game just trying to find people who aren't hiding in dropships. That's why DUST is so slow-paced. Even in objective based matches, people are all over the map.
CCP needs to figure out a way to force combatants together instead of lone-wolfing it across the map. |

This is actually what I'm thinking about doing, right now, the game/beta just makes me frustrated with all the framerate drops and "freezes" that makes people and my character behave like I'm playing on a 56k modem, the only reason I play it is because I feel I should contribute to the beta testing, not for fun, because the game is not fun for me right now.

Find some DUST friends to play with; that's what makes it fun for me. Like last night, I was in a squad with some great players (papa mudd, rebel4revolt, 12ipper, and myself) and we held a supply depot next to the C objective although enemies kept spawning in at C constantly coming at us trying to take us out. Good thing we had the supply depot too because I ran out of rounds at one point. Slowly but surely, we pressed forward and took Charlie but that was a heck of a battle as it was just us four against around 6 continually spawning in. Now that was exciting. In my opinion, if you find DUST boring it's because you're not fully embracing the team/squad aspects of the game. We all know DUST isn't releasing for a while, so if you're not enjoying playing/testing, then what's the point in playing at all? It's not like you get to keep your current stats. All in all, there is still alot DUST has yet to implement such as the player market. Playing the same 3 or 4 levels over and over can get monotonous but that's now how that finished product is supposed to play. |

Yup, and that is why I only play it for an hour a week or so, a few matches and then move on to other games, and stats in a videogame has never been a high priority for me any ways, if I don't have fun, good stats won't change it. ;) And it's not playing solo that is the problem, I've played with Squads but that doesn't change the frame rate issues and other gameplay related problems for me, problems which I had less of in the previous build for some reason, maybe I need to reinstall it, or just wait til a new build arrives... I'll wait and see what happens first. =P

What this game has been in my eyes so far is simple.
Dull.
Combat is slow, environments are plain. This could be any other space shooter from looks alone.
The maps are too open with lots of nothing in between.
I'd do what some others suggested and have a look at MAG for some sort of inspiration or ideas.
Example: Not in a squad? The game should automatically group people together. Four in a group or something like that.
The main interface seems rather clunky and overdone too.
Not even going to really get into the gameplay issues, those are very apparent.
Personal issues: Single use weapons and such? Lame. That may be the way it is, doesn't mean I have to like it, just makes me want to play even less.
Anyway, regardless of whether this game is for me or not, take your time, make it playable, etc.

I thoroughly agree that the game is too slow. Maps/objectives/game modes/whatever need more focus. Like SuperCargo said, everybody just f*cks around the map wherever they want. |

...it already does that.
When you're in the lobby, or in-game afterwards, hit select, check your comms screen, you'll notice a "squad" tab with up to 4 names. If you're the top of the list, CONGRATS! You're squad leader for a bunch of randoms!
I've got an Orbital Strike offf randomly-asigned squadmates once... ONCE. Totally my best Orbital Strike yet. |
