I disagree with OP, and disagree with this only in the amount of bonus.
The problem of one guy knocking the other off of the hack point is a lack of communication. Two squadmates easily fit next to the hack point. (Haven't tried three). But if a squad isn't communicating, then the natural consequence of this is that they should be stepping on each others toes and generally making a mess of things. I apologize if that seems harsh, but that is my opinion because that supports the sort of tactical game that I want to eventually be playing.
As to the amount awarded to those providing overwatch? There should be an award, but not as much as an actual assist, IMO. A hack assist is different, and get's the objective hacked quicker, getting everyone back in the fight sooner. But all those providing overwatch should certainly get some sort of commission on supporting capture of an objective. Also, those providing overwatch theoretically will already be earning a bit more WP if the squad is attacked, mid hack. The hacker will not be able to gain any other WPs without giving up the hack.
We're talking about private military corporations. Not everyone can be assigned the most glorious positions in all engagements...but every individual is also a for-profit institution. More things, in my opinion, should see WP earned balanced more across supporting teammates (not necessarily breaking along squad boundaries) via some sort of commission or bonuses. Infantry supporting a mechanized unit, providing rear or flank security, for instance.
Also, the "within 5m" metric suggested by Moonracer2000 is a bit iffy, in my opinion. I should note that I like Moonracer2000's idea, on the whole...anything that encourages tactical squad and team play (and maybe someday at least "platoon" level?) is a step in the right direction, in my opinion. |
