What changes can be made to Dust to get to that ideal? What about the gameplay of Dust needs fixing, aside from the technical issues and bugs. Videos showcasing ideal gameplay are welcomed.
People say Dust's gameplay sucks, what would need to change for gameplay to be good, what should gameplay be like? excluding obvious things like fixing bugs and technical issues. You can bring up other shooters with good gameplay, and talk about what it has that Dust lacks that makes the gameplay.
Please be specific in your answer. I'm trying to gather some info beyond "gameplay sucks, fix it".

They could try to put in a cover system and perhaps a optional third person view when in it . This would help make the game based more on skill and less on what we use are sp on, this would also help the battles feel a tiny bit more real. |

For me it all comes down to gunplay mechanics. Here are a few suggestions.
Movement and controls feel way too stiff. Maximum sensitivity needs to be increased. I get that limited sensitivity helps balance vs mouse and keyboard, but its way too low. Assault and scout suits need to be able to turn around MUCH faster. Movement and strafing speed needs to be increased back to where it was a couple builds ago. I would also like to see an increase in stamina.
Also the high end gear seems too powerful. Prototype gear is a massive advantage. When you combine this with the inability to strafe and turn and move quickly, even a good player new to the game will lose to a mediocre player who has been playing for a couple months.
Finally I think we need more variety in maps. Almost all the maps atm, even the ambush maps, cater to vehicles. I would like to see some maps that emphasize infantry combat and aren't exposed to constant dropship and tank fire. |

So far for console gaming, Dust is my first. I did download the CoD demo last night just to see what else is out there. It is a prettier game, and smoother shooting mechanics. Dust seems a bit rough and ragged in comparison, but also more precise. It is harder to draw a bead on someone in Dust compared to the demo version of CoD, but I got hits in CoD for firing 6" to the side of a hostiles armpit. It's like there's a hit bubble around targets.( Edit: to be fair, I have killed more than once by sniping somebodys foot, if that was all I had to shoot at)
High end gear is supposed to be very powerful in Dust. Proto gear is supposed to have a massive advantage. That is the reward for either time (passive skill gains), skills (active skill gains), or both. Good players new to the game will still get humbled when facing organized squads in proto gear. The game is working as intended. Suck it up, buttercup.
More maps are coming, so we are promised. More maps to the tune of 3,000+ unique maps, each customizable by the sovereign owner of the planetary district. For the time being, I'm all for CCP tossing us a few bones both on map variety and size.
For the OP, the only thing I could ask for (that I haven't already) would be the ability to sell salvaged items on the market for the same useless ISK that we buy with. Dust ISK may be currently useless on TQ, but it is important here. If you have played for more than a week you have millions in loot that you will never use, but skills that you cannot afford. Let's pressure test the market sometime next year when we are even close to loading Dust on to TQ. For now, the logic of being able to buy from the NPC market but not sell has not been explained. |

Everything needs fixing. This is far too ambitious and quite rubbish. It's horribly unbalanced for new players. You can't even move 20 feet without getting smoked by some lifeless tool who does nothing but play all day and has the best gear. There's lag all over the place too. I don't know how many times it's just paused for a second. The controls are also crap. I wouldn't be surprised if K&M users are owning everyone. There's no middle ground with sensitivity, it's either slow as **** or you lose all fine control. It might be free to play, but I'm not wasting my time with it. At least you get quality out of a game you pay for. |

Strafe speed too slow. ADS speed should be slower than hip fire strafe, but definitely still have some pace. Hip fire needs to be tight and useful in close range, obviously not long range though. Hip fire however should not dominate in close range. ADS should still be viable, hence the suggested ^ speed of ADS
Aiming is terrible. Play any other shooter, then play DUST, then proceed to laugh at DUST. The deadzone is huge. Fluidity is key. The sensitivity also needs increased speed for such players who desire it. The ADS looks cheap. Let us look down a sight, or iron sights. See every other FPS in existence for reasonable sighting mechanics...
Stamina is stupid, just adds to the already sluggish gameplay. Jump is too floaty, though that might be a gravity thing. Skill point disparity will largely kill this game.
I'd like prone, but that may just be me. Maps are terrible and purely catered to vehicles. Need urban environments, see relevant BF3/MAG maps. Current open maps also reveal the AR to be a long range laser beam. Should not be the case. See any other shooter for reasonable assault rifle range... Gun sounds are lol-worthy. Same model for every gun hurts my eyes.
Headshots should be emphasized for those looking for higher order gameplay. Body shots should still be viable. Arm and leg shots should do minimal damage. See Resistance/Halo/MAG. Add higher group size, 4 is pathetic. Increase playercount. Obviously fix frame rate, lag and hit detection.
I could go on... Seriously EVE/DUST fanboys, this **** isn't hard. Play any other game and realize what works. Don't think you're a higher breed and revolutionary because you're using obscure and cheap mechanics. This by no means copy CoD..get that out of your heads...change =/= CoD.
Without total rehaul of the game it'll be laughed off the Playstation Store... PS3 needs a good shooter. |

Matchmaking changes would be a great idea. Being a semi-closed Beta, there may not be a sufficient number of active players to make a skillpoint/equipment/whatever distinction in public matches. We have all been in matches that were essentially over within the first few minutes, both on the blue and red side of the asswhuppin. It is only slightly more fun if you happen to be on the blue team that has a team redlined with near full shields.
We just had a skillpoint reset roughly a month ago. As much as the disparity is now, can you imagine what it will be like for a new player when 50% or more of fielded suits have 10m+ SP and funds that will boggle the new players' mind? Corp battles will help this to some degree, but not to a large degree until corp members have ISK to spare for corp battle funding.
Lag is bad at times and it costs suits to even good players that cough up 100k or more per suit. Per infantry suit. Hopefully this is something CCP can modify, but most likely it is strongly affected by ping times that CCP has no control over. Being a single shard/server game there's onlt so much they can do. They pulled off TiDi as a solution for Eve (Time Dilation) in regards to lag, maybe some drunk Icelander will draw up a stroke of genius on a napkin to handle this.
I don't do KB/Mouse, so that's it. |

Larger player count would be nice.
Add sight options, I don't dislike the camera sight. It looks like and is a camera, but I would like other options. A Reflex could boost close in hip fire, the camera long range hip fire once we have gun modifications. Standard sight should be more normal on ar to make the majority happy.
The ar needs more recoil.
The strafe seems ok now, a little more would be welcome in my opinion.
A cover system would be great.
A option to play in third like in quarters or in first would be nice, could help sell the aur suits if the one that bought it can see it in battle.
I like the stamina, but maybe a across the board increase would be good, it was great in e3, the maps are bigger now so maybe add 10% to all the suits. And a 2 to 5% per level increase to sprint speed attached to the skill that unlocks sprint modules would also help with big maps.
I would also like prone, maybe make it take a second to go into or out off.
Suits could have weak spots other then head, head looks like the most armoured part of scout for example.
More building that can be entered and tunnels would be nice.
The ewar modules, market, and other known future features added.
The gun models should be modular, so the breech could have a shorter barrel and tac a longer one fot example. This would allow differences while keeping the number of models needed small. Proto/adv/aur could be different colour of the same model. |

What do you mean by a cover system? Stuff to hide behind or duck behind?
Suits could use a better soft spot than the armored head, but that might throw headshotting for a loop. It would be very funny to see suits limping after a shot in the chops, on a light note. |

Killzone meets unreal meets battlefield3. They should change the hp/damage/skill balance closer to the original builds. I remember when assault suits were a x1 skill, heavy was x12 or so. Similar deal with health. Militia heavy used to have 800armour. Now 472 or something.
I miss crater lake. Now, I'm not saying the newer maps aren't "good" but I don't think they are up to scratch. Lack of internal spaces is a big factor in vehicle dominance. Also there are places behind the red line which are immensely OP. You could say these are strategic points. IMHO they're horrible. A position of strategic value secured by a tank and a bit of red tape.
Compared to UT/Killzone the controls/movement/turn rate/sensitivity (zero is highest? Wtf?) aren't smooth, jerky, and just generally aren't quite up to standard IMHO. Strafe glitch, fail deaths, ect, don't add anything.
Gameplay is FAR too vehicle focused.
I'm burnt out from too much Dusting. |

Since CCP has stated that they will go the whole way, with Dust coming to PS4 eventually, I can live with a few compromises in the PS3 version. But... As I have said before, three things needs to be done to get this game playable and enjoyable:
1: Fix lag and framerate. This can't be said enough. Throw ground magnets into the mix, the kind that makes you feel you walk on a sticky ground. See MAG and Warhawk for how movement could work, and should work for me. You should be able to move freely, with few restrictions.
2: Add more game modes. I'd like to see game modes catering for large and small groups, from 4v4 to 32v32 (PS4?).
3: Add more maps.
Everything else should take backseat priority right now, these three things are the MINIMUM of what needs to be fixed before launch.
As for game mode ideas, I've twisted my head to figure out easy game modes to add with the functionalities withing the game right now, but other than copying other games I'm drawing a blank.
I would love to see an infiltration PvE mode tho, where you gain WP from the start, until you are noticed, and then you fight your way to the objective to blow it up. 4 people mode perhaps... |

EVE players need to understand this if Dust is created as a mirror image of EVE, it will fail. If players are allowed to use prototype gear in any game and walk all over new players regardless of skill, there will be no playerbase except for a very small group of people who have been playing the game from the start. I play EVE and understand how hard the game is for new players, and if this is mirrored in Dust, console gamers will not bother with it.
CCPs idea for prototype gear was for it to be advantage but not an insurmountable one. If it is not nerfed then it needs to be only useable in certain battles. Obviously its not as much of an issue in corp matches where everyone has it. |

No, it's not the equipment that is the main cause of that, it' only a part. Other factors (as in any fps) are: - Personal skill, combat: Knowledge of the weapons - Personal skill, combat: Knowledge of the map and positions - Personal skill, combat: Having the controls and gungame a second nature - Personal skill, other: Fitting skill - Character skill (SP): SP as if better bonuses - Solo vs team: Being with friends on comms is always better
and what you mentioned - Character assets: Better equipment
And in the mix onto the battlefield will, ofc, be thrown in different situations and pure luck. |

Scouts need Increased strafe speed, and need to be able to, you know, actually use manoeuvre to kill a heavy, another problem is players not taking damage when they blow themselves up, that really annoys me. It would also be good to see the Logisitcs suit have an increased cost and more logistics based rewards, I stopped using it altogether after the repair tool lost it's WPs. A cover system would also be great, though I guess that would be too hard to implement. If so, at least implement destructible cover installations, like walls, or stuff like that, and shield installations. I'd also love to see larger squads, or being able to set your own limit to the players in squads, say a squad of three being a tank squad, a squad of six an infantry squad. I also wouldn't mind knowing how the command structure is going to work and what part the War barge will play, along with MCCs. I'd love to see more CQC maps, you can't honestly be telling their are no urbanised areas in New Eden, it would add an actual level of strategy to the game. It would also give more diversity to the gameplay? Also where are the eight vehicle classes we are supposed to be seeing before the launch? Just saying. |

Personally for me,the gunplay needs to be tightened up.For instance, there seems to be deadspots int he control while aiming making aiming less precise as almost every other shooter. When I try to move the reticle just slightly or slowly,it's slower than any other game that I've ever played.
Like others have said before,ADS is pretty bad right now and really needs to be tightened up too.I really need something more than just a full screen crosshair while aiming down sight.
Hip firing seems pretty loose too.Idk,but there are too many times when I just don't get the feeling that I'm actually hitting anything that I'm aiming at.
So in all,the gunplay needs a major reworking,as far as I'm concerned.
Grenade mechanics and physics need to be tweaked.
I would love to see a sprinting reload option.Maybe make it a skill that you have to acquire. Also would love to see a sprinting strafe as well.
X axis speed really needs to be raised to.With the assault suit, turning 180 degrees takes waaaaay to long to do.
As far as gameplay machanics, that's about all that I would like to see. |

This is the kind of answer I'm looking for.
EDIT: oh, running while reloading is coming. Confirmed here |

I find it funny that everyone talks about lacking iron/reflex sights like every gun is like that. Pretty sure every gun except sniper rifles and assault rifles use actual sights. |
