A scout is not a sniper lets just get that out of the way right now!
snip-+er (snpr) n. 1. A skilled military shooter detailed to spot and pick off enemy soldiers from a concealed place. 2. One who shoots at other people from a concealed place.
scout (skout) or also re-+con-+nois-+sance (r-kn-sns, -zns) n. An inspection or exploration of an area, especially one made to gather military information.
As a scout my job is to move around the battlefield to gather intelligence on all aspects of the fight in order to help the commanders build a better picture of what is happening on the ground.
CCP you have given me very little tools in order to accomplish my goal as a scout and have left little to no choice but to turn into a sniper in order to gain small amounts of WP, SP, and ISK.
Please give scouts some skills to work towards to open up some form of secondary squad commands.
Simple Example: As a scout I see a dropship, I use VOIP to call out said dropship however with all the other action going on over the coms my commander misses my call out. Or lets say they hear said call out, however they then have to relay this information to the SL's and by that time the dropship has moved on. All the while I as the scout have not gained any WP's, SP's, or ISK for relaying this information.
Please give us scouts a tool that can allow us to highlight the dropship, tank, or troop movement like a squad leader can with a squad command. Please give us the ability to be useful instead of useless other than counter sniping and please give us some WP's, SP's, and ISK for doing our jobs.
Thank You

snipers are useful. but really the profile skills are bunked. they don't work like they should and to impliment this would be to fix the profile skills.
because as it stands a LAV driving around has a better chance to see everything in the field of view regardless of profile. |

Give the scouts a set of bino's with a laser range finder and a "laser paint" function to designate targets to your team or squad. Allowing the painted target to be tracked on the minimap and the over view larger map. |

Resistance 3 had an active ability that scanned people and made them visible behind walls. If the target was killed by a team member, the person scanning got assist points.
The catch was that you could only scan one person at a time, and it wasn't always active. The other thing is that if you kill a target that you scanned, you don't get the assist points for it.
I mean, we already have ways to target enemy team members, and you get extra points for it, but that requires you to be a squad leader. |

The binocular idea is great. +1 Maybe give the person to spot the enemy +5wp if a team mate kills them while they are still marked on tac-net? |

I love this idea. Adds a little more to the scout. I'd like to see more manipulation on the radar/chevron system. |

EVE Online has target painters, I see no reason why the grunts shouldn't have them as well...

awesome idea!
and like another poster said, the scout could use a TargetPainter [laser pointed at the enemy] to increase not just the sensor visibility on map, but % damage taken [presuming/imagining our guns can be helped by another person lasing the target].
Then the scout lasing could receive a small amount of WP for assisting in the kill?

Another one suggested vision slots that depend on the suit. Scouts could get most of these slots to work for recon better. |

Great idea and to build on this idea, we could maybe give a variety of WP's for the different threat levels. The greater the threat the greater the WP's. |

Once they fix scanners and give those WP rewards, this idea will be defunct tbh.
When scanners work they're best used by a scout and they pickup most things on the battlefield. The problem is at the moment they don't work half the time and there's zero rewards other than knowing where the guy is. |

So what you are saying is that if and when scanners get fixed and work they should be giving me WP's/SP's for simply sitting in the hills scanning the battlefield?

You should get a small reward if a spotted enemy is destroyed/killed while marked, but it shouldn't be the meat and potatoes of the scout. |

I would have to agree with the above definition if we were given the tools for the scout portion of the above definition. As is now we are only snipers. |

+1 Also, a suggestion Scout pistol: Single shot pistol with reasonable range. Tags the target with a tracking device making it permanently visible on allied radar. |

Scouts can do this already:
Firefly scout suit -Assault rifle/shotgun/tactical sniper rifle -Sensor dampener -2x kinetic catalyzers, or one 12% kinetic catalyzer and a hacking mod -nanohive or drop uplink -SMG if you have good fitting skills (electronics, electronics upgrades, engineering, and so on..)
Add hacking skills for more points faster. You cannot go toe-to-toe with anything, but you can outrun just about everything. There's no reason you can't be a good scout with this and still make all kinds of points.
They will explode if someone hits them with just about anything, but the total replacement cost is only 18k and can be made less buy using some Aurum milita blueprints. |

I am opposed to turning the scout into a support role. If scout stays a paperthin practice target and not fully combat worthy as it is now, no one will play as a scout. No one wants to play just to enable teammates to have fun killing while standing off to a side when it comes to combat.
Playing as scout would be boring as hell even if you get your binoculars and lasers or w/e. What you are asking is for scout to play this game running around the map, hacking things and spotting enemies for the rest of the squad to kill. Sounds about right? This would make scout the most boring job of them all.
What I would like scout to be is a fast competitive fighting suit that emphasizes speed, damage and stealth at the expense of HP (a niche that is represented by "Rogue" in RPG games). As it stands, all of these characteristics seem to be still lacking. For a fact, a logi suit buffed with kinetic catalyzers can outspring a scout suit, even though speed is supposed to be scout's forte. |

Two things:
1. In a squad, a good Scout should be the Squad Leader. Mark a squadmate with a defend order while you're moving, or while there are no "high value" targets. When you find an important target, mark it as the squad objective.
2. They've said that they're looking at rewards (almost certainly meaning WP rewards) for players using Active Scanners. This will most likely make scouting more of a viable option, depending on how it's done.
3. FORCING Scout Dropsuits into a more passive role is a terrible idea. There should always be an option to build combat-focused "glass cannon" Scouts with Shotguns and Sniper Rifles and Swarm Launchers. |
