Id like to get peoples opinions on this subject. In EVE skills are trained passively and not by destroying ships or suchlike. Id like to see something similar in Dust whereby you choose a skill to add the passive SP to so that when you start playing again the SP cost for that skills next level has reduced. |

Why? You can still put your passive SP into whatever skill you want.
I just don't see the point, I mean it's not like it'll make training up skills any faster, or make any real difference whatsoever. |

I do like that idea tbh
With the active SP you gain you can level up another skill aswell as the passive skill your leveling up

tbh i would like the ability to slowly put passive sp again into one skill, like suits for example, but as a catch not be allowed to use active sp in it, because at least then i would know i would get it at some point and focus on more useful short term skills |

If anything I feel Dust's implementation of passive SP is superior to EVE's.
[Forgive me if things have improved as I haven't played EVE in years] I hated having to keep an eye on the skill training timer and log into the game even when I wasn't planning to play just to switch skills around. It basically meant if you were gone for a week and didn't have a high level skill training, you lost that week's worth of SP. Why is this better? |

you are already getting 2 tiers of sp gain, a third would be op, unjustified and make things easier....
I swear people QQing about not getting daily sp, the cap, isk costs, and now requests for a 2nd passive sp gain. that's just.... no. |

Ahh, I think I'm finally understanding this concept now. Its about being able to contribute SP to a skill without going the full level, rather than about passive/active SP per-se.
I assume the idea is that it takes less discipline and self-control to do it this way, and that can be valuable even though overall you'd end up getting some skills later with the proposed approach. |

Eve now has a skill queue to manage that kind of thing; you can queue up to 24 hours of "short skills" and then drop a long skill in at the end. Alarm clock skill change log-ons are thankfully a thing of the past.

Just throwing it out there. How about two sets of skills. One passive only, the other active only. The more important skills can be in the passive only group, so that everyone is on the same page as far as game progression goes. The active ones would be a good incentive to actually play matches. |

Or an alternative would be to designate a skill to train and all SP, earned and passive, would go into that skill until the level was done training.
I, myself, would prefer to go to a strictly passive SP gain. I like building a pool of SP and then just using that pool to buy a skill level. Boosters could still work by increasing the SP gain over time. Or make it exactly like Eve's passive skilling system where if one doesn't keep something in their skill que, then there are no SP gains at all.
The problem here is that all the Veruca Salts out there would QQ and rage quit... Wait... That might not be a bad thing. |

I'm just thinking that at the moment that skill training seems a bit passive and boring. I'd like to see something like the last post suggested where you choose a skill and can only put SP into it until its complete |

The idea wasn't to have a second lot of SP gain, it was to have the ability to choose to put your passive SP gain into a skill. I realise it really makes no difference as you could still choose to put the SP on that skill afterwards anyway. But with some low level skills, setting it so its passive training overnight and knowing that the next day it's trained would be good. The other thing is that my job can take me away for months at a time so for me the ability to queue a load of skills and know that they're still training would make me feel better. |

You'll still have all that passive SP saved up to dump when you get back.
20k passive a day x 60 days = 1.2 mil SP, i think you can train a few skills with that. |

Good point. I just wanted to feel like I was progressing while I was away. I mean if the choice is there you dont have to use it. But it'd be nice for those that do. |
