EDIT: Below is the story of a frustrated gamer who went from a rage filled post to an understanding the feeling of the dark side in a quest to discover: Is the dropship really OP?
While many of you will roll your eyes and exclaim in exasperation as another player gives an opinion that's probably useless, let me ease your worries as I went from frustrated gamer to struggling pilot to missile destroyer of the landscape.
While I'm not proud of this accomplishment of questionable evil, I did pick up several different perspectives had I not gone down the path I did.
Two people who have commented also brought forward some really great ideas for fixes which I will link. They were Chankk Saotome and Pranekt Tyrvoth. Both had different, yet great suggestions.

Increase the swarm missiles to actually catch up with dropships. I understand that they can burn away using a booster, but when swarms and swarms and swarms and swarms and swarms and swarms and swarms and swarms and swarms and swarms and swarms of missiles can't hit the target (mind you, several volleys from multiple players) then how the hell can we shoot them down?! Oh sure, I guess we can use Forge guns, but what good can those do if they can't even hit it because the dropships are jumping all over the place? Not to mention they blow up before hitting the target so they have a range limit too?
TLDR: It is very angering to see two people go around the map and go 33/0 and 0/0 and get the most WP while the teammates are trying to scrap up the remains and the other team gets frustrated because they can't hit dropships with militia gear.
BALANCE YOUR GAME CCP. NERF THE SPEED ON DROPSHIPS.
Also, fix your spawns. After writing this I tried to join another game (Ambush mode) and spawned in front of an enemy Gunlogi. Really? |

Just went 3/7 K/D in another Ambush match. I was the highest scoring player. The enemy brought out a Gunlogi and a dropship and our team could do nothing about it.
EDIT: Adding for more description:
I hit a Gunlogi in the face with the Breach Forge Gun. You know the second highest damage dealing Forge gun in the game. 3 times. All it did was take down it's shields to about, we'll say 15%.
I was in a match earlier where I called in a Sica. Militia tank. Squishy I know. But someone with a Forge gun (didn't get the type) blew me to smithereens in one shot! Through the shield... through the armor.... dead.
I know the Sica is supposed to be easy to kill but I just don't understand how they kill me in 1 shot, and it takes me 3 shots from the 2nd highest damage dealing weapon to barely do anything to a Gunlogi. If that's balanced, then I'm at a total loss. |

I hope so. I've been excited for this game ever since they showed some footage at the Fanfest 2012 and was even more excited when they called in the Orbital Strike using EVE players. I don't want that to go down the drain due to game imbalance. |

Im in the same boat as you, im in a tank aswell and im like meh why bother, since i see who are pilots mainly now i do back out of games if i see a dropship or 2 up or even if i see the name because if i bring out my tank now they bring out a dropship
In end i will prob skill up for a dropship, no MCRU on it so i can have more tank or maybe get a fleet of milita dropships and ram it out the sky possibly Well I did some reading on other threads and remembered they haven't implemented fighters yet. Man oh man, I can't wait... >:D

I didn't know that. As a fresh new dropship pilot, I have found out a lot of things that I didn't know before, such as shield resistance modules and hardeners...
The thing that is difficult is when I run with people who have forge guns like The dark cloud mentioned. One just won't cut it. Unfortunately, when I ran solo, many scrubs didn't even pull out their swarm missile launcher.
Which is why I don't run alone anymore and have a decent Forge gun fit. |

- if three shots took 85% of tank's shields, each shot is about 28%. With only 15% of its shield HP (remember, Gunnlogi's are shield tankers!) I would find it likely for it to blow up on your 4th shot. Sure, getting 3 hits with a Breach forge is a achievement in itself. But solo killing a tank isn't and shouldn't be easy.
- How you've tanked your sica? Did you remeber heavy shield extenders and resistance modules? My sica gets killed on 3rd or 4th forge hit. Shield boosters, although useful, won't help against single big hits. Fitting IS a huge part of the game and success!
Thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. A few things I learned...
- I didn't know there were weaker spots on tanks! Something to keep in mind and from now on, I'll be checking the efficiency rating when looking at my tank to analyze for where those weak spots are. I do remember I got shot from behind (which, hearing from where he was, it should have been a place where I would have seen him... oh well... gotta keep a wider watch on my corners).
- It was a bit of an achievement, but if you had seen footage, it was pure dumb luck. The Gunlogi had Large Missile Turrets equipped. I was standing in the middle of the driving range (don't remember the map name), but there was a little hill that protected me. The missiles hit that hill or went over me while I hit the very edge of the top part of the tank 3 times with a breach forge gun. Of course, I was running solo and without cover from teammates, something I plan to not repeat again!
- My Sica needs work. All it has is that Heavy Shield Booster that comes with it. After spending a day on the marketplace looking around at the different defensive modules that you can use with vehicles, I'll be sure to change the fitting for success! :) |

the AV is laughable when the vehicle pilots get to higher levels. it takes way more to stop a vehicle (to some respect). but when you have an entire enemy team with rockets and forge guns i shouldn't go 25/0.
i was shooting at these heavies that made 3 hits with a forge guns and some rockets on my drop ship and it wasn't even that high of a level. it ate the damage and still had 1/4th armor and after the heavies were shot the pilot flew away to rep up.
tanks are even worst at eating many shots while delivering deadly payload without even a chance of dying. they take precision strikes and shrug it off as if it was a militia rocket.
i understand it takes people to take out vehicles but the steep incline of vehicle health doesn't match the incline of AV. a maxed out swarm is a bee sting to a maxed out tank. What exactly am I lying about? If it's about the Breach Forge Gun, yes, I made an error. It is not the second most powerful Forge Gun, but it still does a decent 2100 base HP damage.
Or were you talking about my duel with the Gunlogi? Trust me, I wish I was lying too. But the fact still stands that I used a Breach Forge Gun, fired it 3 times before dying, each time I got the red x hit indicator, and watched it's shields drop but not completely down.
Or were you talking about when I was one shot by a Forge gunner while in my Sica? Again, I wish I was lying too but a 9K330 (Level 3 Forge Gun) hit me from behind and killed me through full shields and full armor. You don't understand how mad I was from that death.
If your going to call other people lairs without explanation, I would suggest doing something more meaningful with your time.
The rest of your post I agree with: the AV in this game is pretty laughable. But I agreed with Chankk Saotome that "that a free suit should be able to take down two week's worth SP investment and half a mil investment by another player." |
