You haven't learned anything useful for employment in the real world by being a Dust beta player. The people reading your resume don't want a pile of dumb crap on there that they have to wade through. Your resume needs to be concise.
If you feel your resume is sparse, then actually go out and start volunteering or whatever. Get a job at a hospital as a volunteer, or at a soup kitchen. Now is the time to start hammering out some quality volunteer entries to put on your resume that show you are committed to something, and are willing to donate your time toward a worthy cause. That's the kind of thing employers (and post-grad programs and basically everyone else) want to see. |

Naturi Riclenore wrote:Believe it or not... it depends on the job / function.
For instance, say you were the leader of a large Guild in a game, and a popular Guild / game. Esp. if it was sucessfull, people see that as a management type role; some exployers to view that as a skill.
Should you put it there, I have seen people do it and it works, others and it doesn't. Really depends.
If you're applying for a job as a guild leader, then sure, past guild leader experience will help. But being a competent, professional, effective leader in an actual, real-life environment is nothing like being a guild leader in a video game. This is another one of those things that, if you find you have room to put it in on your resume, means you need to do more stuff so that you can add worthwhile things to your resume.

So you asked a question you didn't even want an answer to in the first place? Well, I'll tell you what, it isn't your question that's stupid. |

DarkShadowFox wrote:It was a valid question, I had a question I needed an answer , I got some answers is that so wrong?
You got answers and then blustered about the fact that you did, claiming you already knew the answer and didn't need anyone to tell you it. Hey, if that's the case then maybe don't make the thread and specifically ask people for their comments?
Super Cargo wrote:Something to put on your resume that you might not think of: CEO or officer of a DUST or EVE corp.
You have practical experience managing a diverse group of people over the internet to achieve an end goal. Conflict resolution, HR, financial management, strategy, tactics, focusing on the bigger picture, team cohesiveness.
Video games aren't a complete joke after all.
They're mostly a complete joke. Unless you're a CEO of an EVE corp and you're looking to get a job at CCP, nobody cares. |

I, on the other hand, am. It isn't something that would be the gem of your resume, but it is a nice addition.
The person who wrote what I'm quoting is full of **** and should not be listened to regarding job applications.

And you better manage damn impressive numbers, and avoid term 'video game' at all costs.
This is much more sensible advice. |
