anybody played both, and have an opinion on this?
I just bought Dragon's Dogma the other day, already have Skyrim. haven't played DD long enough to really form an opinion. |

Kinda harsh.
I like everything but the combat in skyrim. For the most part. Its very immersive.
The combat in DD is very fun thus far, but since i am only in the beginning, it remains to br seen if there is anything else to this game besides big monsters.
side note, I think people overuse and misuse the term "casual" |

Vexen Krios wrote:Skyrim was good. Dragons Dogma was good. I like the fight mechanics of DD better than i did skyrim. But Skyrim had loads more to do. Only thing i didnt like about dragons dogma was how easy the regular enemies are and then you hit a huge boss and its ridiculous. I hate the freaking oversized chicken, the cockatrice or whatever its called.
want a real rpg/survivalist game....pick up demon souls and dark souls.
The bolded is kinda how I feel at the moment. in DD I just got the Gran Soren though.
The Elder Scrolls series has always had lackluster, barely passable combat. But it always makes up for that in the sheer scope of the game. there is just so much content. in Skyrim I liked being able to own/decorate a House, become a werewolf or a vampire, collect ALL THOSE BOOKS(!!!) etc. I also like that there is so much lore and story to be consumed in the course of regular gameplay. all the guilds and such.
Not seeing that n DD so far. just...awesome battles with big monsters that just pop up with no explanation or reasoning(seriously...why the hell did that Hydra just randomly show up at the Pawn Encampment? was it just sleeping there or something and decided to wake up and RAWR?)
DD seems more like an evolution of Monster Hunter than the Open-World RPG Skyrim killer that people make it out to be.
but then again, as a disclaimer, I've only just now gotten to Gran Soren, so I really don't have the full picture of Dragon's Dogma...or do I? |

New Game+ is one of the worst, laziest developer ideas I have ever seen.
just a cheap way for developers to extend their game so that they don't have to put enough content in their game to make it playable for a long time. "hey instead of giving them a ton of content, lets just make the current content harder!" Play the exact same game in the exact same order with the exact same characters and stories, only the enemies have more HP this time.
I played Dark Souls, and while It is okay for what it is, it seemed like the only thing it had going for it was its difficulty. Beyond that it was pretty boring to me. The game world was dead, there was absolutely no story whatsoever (don't give me that fanboy-ish "oh they tell the story cleverly through item descriptions crap, I've heard that and its a load), you are just wandering around a dead, desolate world for no readily apparent reason(cue the "waaah you want someone to hold your hand?" naw, but It'd be nice to know what happened to the dead city that I am walking around in)
Dark Souls is overrated by people who want to beat their chest about playing a difficult game, so that they can belittle "casual" whatevers.
If Dark Souls wasn't as hard as it is, it'd be a horrible game. and that said, outside of the Bosses, it really isn't THAT difficult. just hold block and counter attack for the majority of non-Boss enemies.
It seems like as long as a game is mind-blowingly difficult, then nothing else about the game matters.
I like some story with my getting facestomped. So Dark Souls got traded in. |
