In short, small railguns don't have nearly enough damage/range to shoot one down. |

The best thing I had against a dropship was calling an LAV with an advanced missile turret to the top of a VERY tall building- it was too tall for the dropship to effectively get up to level with, and by the time it finally did, the swarms were starting to reach it and it was almost out of shields. |

Waruiko DUST wrote:Small rails on LAVs can totally shoot down Dropships. They can't do it easy or quickly but even if they fail they can still scare pilots with damage from nowhere. besides when you do pop at them you can one shot the gunners and passengers if you get lucky. I made a thread on why dropships are so damn hard to shoot down- no, you can't just take them down slowly, because once their shields get remotely low, they just fly into the redzone until their shields regen and armor is repaired. |

Not "nuff said". the Plus side to my idea is that anyone with any fit can call in a LAV with a Rail. Forge guns are great for AV but once the threat its gone you're a one trick poney. the only railguns that can do enough damage to be worth firing at a dropship are prototype railguns- advanced if there's a pack of them. Trust me- I've fired at plenty with standard railguns- does about as much damage as a militia swarm (without the debilitating explosion to tip the dropship).
They also take some practice to land a hit with, and have short range. At least they'll hit way more often than swarms (with practice) |

and that is physically impossible unless you are fighting in a corp battle because randoms never communicate.
having to sit and wait for the perfect time for everyone to release the missiles is key to destroying the tards in the sky. that said, if you aren't in a corp battle, it's not going to happen because randoms refuse to co-operate.
even if you manage to get them released at a good time, chances of them hitting are still slim if the pilot manages to speed back up into the red zone because missiles are slow. well if i can scare them back to there red line thats time my boys have to not be blown up. and before the dropship comes back, everyone will be mowed down by infantry because they're using swarms |
