So are there any official names for the maps? I know that there are a couple that are static, but the really big map seems to have a random center point. |

i think its best to just name the landscapes and have what installations are in as a secondary name. So everyone knows which landscape i'm referring to when i say Jagged Rocks map, Towers Map, Construction Yard map, and Wide Open Map. For the wide open map which changes up the center installation you could say "Wide Open Communications" to indicate the Installation with the green short fat tower |

'Jagged Rocks' is being used frequently by players and I use it, too.
I also like 'Ring Tower' for the battlefield with the, you guessed it, ringed tower in the southernmost central part of the map.
And 'Constructuion Yard' is really cool. I just realized the other day that it was a facility that was buliding some type of starship, or at least that is what it looks like to me with the rocket ports on the bottom. I'm starting to love that map.
Anyhow, I guess it's really only relevant to the Beta, as when the game truly evolves, there will be 1000's of planets/districts and too many to name in a personal way.
Or maybe names would still be applicable then, too, who knows? |

they had names.
i never really payed much attention to the names of them though. communications array was one of them. not sure which one anymore. i think it's the one that has the 5 points and is the most laggy map. |

the one with the 6 towers on the sides and the 2 warehouses in the north - you know, the really rare map? - is named plateas. I think communications was the one with the larger city and the smaller 1 road city was like biomass or something.
jagged rocks is.. well, jagged rocks as far as I know, ever seen a name for that one.
could have mixed up biomass and communications, but I think they are right. |

But we already know there are going to be more than 1 district per planet, so we would need to get even more specific. |

Each district will basically have a hub, that is a main installation type.
So far a few we have seen, just off the top of my head:
Communications
Biomass
Pipes and towers (i.e. plateau)
Warbarge onna gantry
Surface to Orbit defense cannon thing
Some rocks (not really sure about this one, is it a "large installation type"? there doesn't seem to be much to it other than rocks, towers, some sort of cylindrical tanks...)
The main installation type can have spokes and side installations. All installations are basically objects that are placed on a map in slots, and they are swappable. We haven't really been playing on Maps, we have been playing on installation types. The maps are much larger and you can see the approximate size of some districts if you zoom out on the overhead view of the installation.
All environments are extruded to match a particular planet type in EVE. If you go to the star map you will see different planets and maps will be made so that you are fighting on terrain that would expect to find on those planets. I would also assume that architecture for different installation types would match what you would expect to find on a planet based on who controls that area of space, the empire that is doing the building.
Fast forward to sov. warfare. Players who control districts will get to choose the type of installation they want to plug into their terrain. They should get a planetary benefit depending on what kind of installations they place in their districts. |

Communications (the map with the two round rooms that connect and have "decks" out the the front)
Biomass (the map with the two level indoor room that has a bridge over the main road)
Plateaus (the map with the two hills and the two "garages" and the "pipes")
Warbarge Docking (multi tiered city structure)
Construction Yard (with all the ladders and structures, some kind of look like oil rigs)

The structure complexes will eventually be race specific, devs said they won't all be ready at launch. So the Gallente communications array may be used by all races till a patch adds the other races communication models for example.
If the name of installation was listed on the map it would be easier to talk about them. They come in 3 sizes, so some of the maps have multiple. Same with the mega terrain and moods for the beta. At launch it should be a region of district instead of mega terrain #5 or whatever they are called.
They said 5km by 5km map in fanfest video. This seems to be the size of map if you zoom all the way out, non-red area is maybe 5% of the red area. Have they ever said how many maps will be per district, approximate of course since I'm sure it will vary.
A planet/district/map(or in universe name for area smaller then district) would be best way to name map. The installations can be changed by the owner, so a communication map could become a biomass map overnight. |
