I'm going to bring what I think is a pretty radical idea to the table here. It isn't a nerf and it isn't a buff. It's just plain old fashioned balancing. Since the HP leveling across the various suits, heavies have seemed to get the least attention. So continuing my attempts at fixing some issues with this class I have some suggestions about the suits.
The 3 armor heavy suits are completely useless. There is no reason to use them, ever. Armor is inferior to shields in every way that is important in this game. With 812 armor (650 base + Mechanic V) they are walking death traps. Using a complex armor repairer and skill level V that would take about 2'36" to repair your armor from having only 1 unit left on the basic suit. The advanced suit could do it in half that time, but 1'13" is still several times longer than anything dealing with shields and would require an armor repper in both low slots. This we negate any extra CPU and PG you might get and waste the extra slot. In fact, trying to put 2 reppers on it would probably make for a worse overall fit than the basic suits. There is absolutely no reason at all to use the advanced heavy suit in any situation.
These armor suits were originally meant for the heavy class to actually tank the incoming damage and survive. For starters this was a terrible idea in an FPS, but I can understand how it might seem like a good idea at first so I won't hold it against you. But now that we know it isn't a good idea you need to fix some things.
Just get rid of the armor suits. Actually keep the basic armor suit if you want for the first skill level and move in to hybrids on level II. I'm good with that, the SP required is small enough to make it worthwhile. But make the advanced suit a hybrid and get rid of the armor proto suit.
Heavies don't need more versatility. That's not what we do. Heavies are very good at what they do and very bad at most everything else. We don't need a buff, we just need to get rid of all the vestigial aspects and make the class look more well thought out.

Why can't you do the same for the shielded suits? Not to mention armor is more vulnerable to explosive damage and they're slower. I must be really missing something. My main problem is the advanced suit being an armor suit. I just don't see any use for them.
EDIT: Sorry, I was thinking about too many things at once. Yea, I see what you are saying there. That's why the basic armor is fine. There is going to be an HP difference between the two without shield extenders fit on the hybrid suit. With Mechanic V and Shield Management II the difference is 44 HP. Although a bit less since your armor is going to take more damage from explosions. With Mechanic V and Shield Management IV (figured lvl V wasn't realistic for most players for a while) the difference in only 10 HP. Which is probably less than the additional damage you would take from an explosion. Not to mention whatever stacking penalty is on the second complex mod it might not even be really worth it for the additional cost and restrictions to your fit.
The basic armor suit is fine, since with low skills it is better for AV work. But the advanced suit being an armor suit seems pointless and there really shouldn't be a proto armor suit. Not that anyone is really going to use proto suits very often anyway. I guess it doesn't really matter if it's there or not. I just think useless (or obviously inferior) options bring a game down more than fewer options. |

Right, at level IV. You've got the armor suit at lvl III. I really wasn't clear on that point, little too tired and typing a little too fast. Any of the advanced armor suits really are inferior and don't really have a purpose. The other classes are going to have some uses for this stuff, but the advanced armor suits really just seem to be thrown in there. Especially if you missed the beta it's just going to be confusing. There seriously is never a time to use the advanced armor suit. I'm glad they moved away from every level of the dropsuit skill getting you better or different armor. Except these heavy suits were just nerfed and forgotten, leading right back to the SP dumped in to lvl III not even marginally useful. |

I've seen the idea to have one like vehicles with a cooldown like that and I posted about having a repper that would heal you quickly but would immobilize you. Ultimately I gave up though and just started thinking about getting rid of the suits. New items like that are gonna be OP and there's gonna be whining and crying and I really just want CCP to finish the game. |

immortal ironhide wrote:but yea the armor suits currently are a joke even tho thats mainly what i use....died the other day in less than 2 secs to an SMG... Yea. The armor heavy suit really just doesn't serve a purpose any more (other than raw HP for AV work, I see how that could be useful). CCP realizes this, but they just left it there because they don't know what else to do. But it looks really bad. And it just seems lazy. |

Shield have there own advantages but only come into their own when you are fighting without support; something i hope to avoid if I'm in a fight that matters.
True enough, armor does have more HP. However having someone to rep you is a big if. There's no WP to be had, there's no one really repping anymore. A lone heavy really isn't a good idea. I do it sometimes, but it's usually going to end badly. However, with the marginal HP you get from armor it's not really worth it to mess with. Let's say the armor suit has 50 extra HP. That's 2 shots from an AR. You are huge, slow and easy to hit. The advantage is negligible.
Also, if I'm not mistaken AR's are hybrid weapons, right? They are equally effective against both shields and armor. The armor heavy is also weak to grenades. That's another huge issue.
