Hey!
Well i know many players in Dust 514 dont own a mic (myself included) and are always left behind when looking for a squad or trying to join a corp since having a mic is a requirement in most of them And i know it sucks playing by yourself with a bunch of stragers that dont know what the hell they are doing
But many people own smartphones!
My idea is if you own a smartphone, dont have a mic and want to squad with people we could use SKYPE to communicate since its free and compatible with most if not every smartphone out there and easy to use.
Im just looking for people to squad up
If this get some attention i was thinking of making a chat channel for people that wants to squad but using skype so we can know who is online in a easier way!
My skype: rickmc61
let me know what you think

Benefits of using skype:
1. It will never go down or have issues 2. We can always keep communication even in between matches or if the game crash! 3. Its free 4. You dont need a mic you just need a smartphone or a laptop/PC 5. Its free |

This seems like a bizarre and inconvenient way to avoid spending $20 on a mic. Some people can't use mics due to living situations, but if you can talk on Skype on a cellphone, you can use a mic.
This boggles my mind, to be honest. It's not like mics are expensive things out of the reach of most people. |

It kills me that these people think that their only option is to get a full headset where some of them can get up in excess to $300+.
I bought a Turtle Beach P11 headset that was on sale for 40 bucks, that are usually $60,but I just don't understand how it seems that people forget that PS3 supports Blutooth earpieces. You can get one of those for $20.If you are than cheap to where you can't afford $20 for any game that supports team chat, then you just don't deserve to play, imo.
Skype isn't a fail safe either.Depending on where you live, and how good your coverage is,there's a good chance that it can cut off on you too.
I have friends that play BF3 together, and they are literally spread out all over the world. They were having issues with lag and determined that if they cut their comms and used Skype, then it would work better, and apparently it did.So unless Skype is an absolute last resort,I would say quit being a cheap bastard and get a headset.
BTW,how is it that a person that can afford a smartphone somehow can't come up with another $20-$30 for a Blutooth headset? |

Its not me being cheap its me offering a different option to comunicate! and yeah 20 aint that much but not everyone lives in USA prices change all over the world! In my country what you call a 20 dollars mic over here its like 40 dollars but thats not the case U dont know the current financial state of people maybe i just can't afford one right know you know there are more important things you need to spend money on! yes i will buy a mic but not right now so this was intented to be used in the mid time not a permanent thing! I dont really know whats the problem using skype! just let people mind they own business!
Also if you have a mic I dont see why you have to stick your heads over this post! if you have one great good for you go play intead of calling everyone poor because you got a fine 50 dollars headset! |

To the "buy a $20 BT" comments, those things suck. Unless you're looking to have crackling, high pitched, painful voice audio, I'd suggest another route(like skype as the OP suggested). Or, if you're one of those people that cranks your Beats by Dre up to 11 all the time and can't tell the difference between a fart and music, definitely go the $20 route. |

Unless you have one of those prepaid deals, data packages from the major cell phone providers are starting at $30 across the board. Now take that plus your regular cell phone package, and you are going to be paying over $75 per month. |

haven't tried it yet to see but can't you just connect your phone via Bluetooth and use it as a mic in game rather than going through a third party service. I will try and test this when the servers come back up and see if it will work. at the very least I am sure an app could be created allowing this type of connection directly to the ps3 and there may already be one on the market now. if not it would certainly have a market here for a dev to make some money off of the app. |

I tried a couple of mics with my PS3, all of them were just about crap. I got a pair of headphones I thought wasn't compatible with the PS3, it was just for my smartphone, and whaddya know. The PS3 LOVES them. Try buying a 20$ mic that isn't proprietary or meant to work with the PS3, because sometimes they just do. :) |
