I rolled this character just now, having fun with it. Came with Swarm Launcher OperationLevel 1. Looked at the passive skill bonus and it is to damage radius. Sorta useless when the damage radius of Swarm Launchers is 1m...
How about, with the amazing speed of drop ships, you guys make it +5% swarm missile speed instead. Would really help those looking to master the swarmies...
Now on to just use Swarm missiles, SMGs, and Pistols.... (Pistols are pretty rocking actually and REALLY cheap...) |

Fun fact, splash damage weapons hurt the occupants of a dropship. That's the only benefit of increasing blast radius on swarms that I can imagine. |

i actually killed the gunner of a dropship with swarms like that just hit the dropship and poof he fell out

If they bring target painters into the game, the radius blast may possibly work with them. The painter electronically increases the sig radius of the target so in a theory the swarm launcher rounds should detonate without hitting the actual target, but it's e signature. |

Target painters could be a good idea, but the way they work in EVE is by literally expanding a targets signature radius.
This affects the target by allowing allies to lock onto it faster, as if it were a larger target, and by allowing larger munition weapons to come closer to their full potential of damage.
For example if you fire Cruise missiles at a frigate it takes very much reduced damage because their signature radius is smaller than the explosion, it's part of the balancing and somewhat realistic I suppose (it isnt all super realistic), so they dont just get blown up from 1 cruise missile hit (if it catches them) (unless they have a MWD on, in which they do take full damage because of the ~500%? sig increase)
But if the frigate is target painted, the cruise will do closer to its full potential damage... TPs will never make weapons exceed their maximum damage, so they would have little effect in DUST
i dont think it helps track targets with laser, hybrid, and projectile weapons, if the target is exceeding the tracking speed, but it will help those weapons land more soundly if it is travelling within tracking speed
I would guess that if Forge Guns and Swarms arent doing the trick right now, taking them down will be up to other vehicles, maybe fast fighter planes or antiair ground vehicles
Speed bonus would probably be better than explosion radius for sure though |

The painter could increase the sig res allowing the swarm to detonate closer but without the need to hit the target, so then blast radius would be important again. |

It meant something back when we could dumb-fire swarmers. Now it means absolutely nothing and either the weapons or the skill needs to be changed to compensate for that fact.
Perhaps tracking ability, or speed boost... something. Or re-allow dumb-fire of swarmers. |

i hate the way they are just copy pasting stuff from eve into dust it's killing this game. do you devs really think that things like this add depth to the game for FPS players? game depth to an fpser and an mmo like eve are 2 very different things. |

the skill bonus is a leftover from back when swarms dealt their FULL damage as splash. it was a ******* nightmare.
CCP WISELY nerfed the splash damage to hell, but now it's time to clean up after that patch and change the skill bonus. i agree with the missile flight speed idea. it's a good way to counter the invinvible dropship circling, without making them suddenly vulnerable to every newb with a militia launcher. |

The bonus is a call back to when splash on the weapon was in the sixties I think and people were using the dumbfire as an anti-personnel weapon at close range. Back then you could bombard a hill side with swarms to put pressure on the people there to move or die. That role is now filled by the mass driver. |
