Hello,
Most have valid points. Some....eh.
I do think that the strafe got a lot of people upset. Right now it just seems like certain fits don't stand a chance. I have been dedicated to a Scout Shotty even though I can actually go faster with an Assualt due to the extra slots and have higher survivability; and let me tell you it has been painful. That being said, unless you use an Assualt AR or a Heavy HMG, you are very much outclassed and it's always an uphill battle. This tends to lead players who like to play other fits to feel like they don't have much of a chance to be "elite", and therefore it's not worth it to them.
If you are immediately outclassed, regardless of your skill points or actual "skill", it de-motivates you to try. Winning is fun, and while not everyone can be winners a good balance will keep a solid player base. Same thing happened to WoW. In the beginning everything was very balanced and they contantly tweaked things to keep it so. They introduced some new mechanics which skewed the balance, and became very slow at tweaking, which turned off much of the player base.
Essentially, balance is important and is only achieved through constant tweaks, even after release. WoW's pvp system was only a small part of play, yet was still heavily impacted. This game will be impacted even more cause the "pvp" aspect is damn near the entirety of the gameplay. Once new balance tweaks come out you should see an influx of players come back to try their fav fits once again. Right now about 1/3rd feels alienated due to Scouts becoming a bit irrelevent, and rebalancing them back to relevance has been a bit slow to come to fruition. (The longer this takes btw, the less people return. It is expected that some will leave and not come back during tweaks but is usually offset by the influx of new players which we don't really have the luxury of until full release; however the longer an imbalance is perpetuated without a tweak the less players of the alienated group are willing to return).
I know many people cry about nerfs and tweaks but honestly it will and should be a constant and repeated process for the entire life of the game.
I think this is the biggest contributing factor, (I too have noticed a severe drop off). Another big contributor is the skill cap (previously mentioned), and the fact it takes a week to reset; probably should make that a daily reset to promote daily play at the least. A small contributor is Borderlands 2. |
