I think it would be great to skill into vehicles and own everyone on the field. But I just can't seem to find the secret win button. Where is that thing? I'll put the TL;DR right up here at the top: You're all welcome for the free kills. Glad I could be of service.
Tank:
I made what I felt was a decent shield militia tank. Called it in to an ambush match (even though that might be bad form) and what happens? Before I can even turn the turret of the rail gun or get some gunners an LAV drives up from across the map and shoots me in the ass with missiles 8 times in under 5 seconds and dead. So much for tanks.
Dropship:
Made an armor tanking fitting. This was before I realized the thing to do was circle the map like a buzzard runnin the 5000 metre at a track and field meet. Took a slow turn to give gunners a chance to take out some targets. Ate a swarm and armor caught fire. Turned on the armor repper but the armor was burning faster than the repper seemed to be able to repair the damage. But after a few seconds booking it around the map i t looked like I was in the clear. Armor was going back up and shields were a full strength. Only by then all the gunners were gone and I did not have a cru. Tried to do some fancy flying to land and pick up more gunners. Hit R3 and crashed.
Realized armor tanking with a drop ship only makes you slow and liable to eat militia swarms. ANd maybe it would be good to fit a CRU.
Made a shield tanking militia fit. Began to practice flying with some gunners but they couldn't hit anything since I had only the most basic missile turrets. Took a hit from a swarm. Ha! The swarm did next to no damage! THis is how it is done. Plus those Caldari ships are fast. Started up to do my 12.5 laps. THis was in a skirmish battle so there was ordinance flying all over the place. I was dodgeing and weaving fire from missile installations, null cannon fire, MCC on MCC fire, tI was dodging and weaving between rockets and stuff and there was so much ordinace in the air I forgot about the 15 swarms on my tail. They caught up with me and dead.
Called in the drop ship, started to do the laps, had a fitting that could tank at least 3 militia swarm strikes if I had my shield thingy going. I was going to be king of the air. Something hits dropship out of nowhere, flips it completely over, crash into a gantry and dead.
Called in the drop ship and before I can even build up speed a forge gunner camped on top of a building across the map 2 shots the ship. And dead. Maybe time to go back to armor? Shields do nothing against a forge. But armor is so slow...
Called in a drop ship and before I can get off the ground a tank pops out from behind a building and gets a hit with the railgun. All my gunners bail. But my shields are strong and I am still flying! Only the armor had caught on fire so I flew aroud until the armor burned up and dead.
1.5 ISK later give or take I've maybe racked up a grand total of 3 vehicle kill assists, managed to kill at least 9 total players on my team that were unlucky enough to spawn into the drop ship, and spent maybe less than 10 minutes trying to learn to fly around in a circle.
Maybe I should go back to tanks?
Good players in vehicles that take at least 3 people to operate and use all the guns should always own all but the most awesome solo player in an AV fitting. It seems fair that 2 good AV guys should stand a fighting chance against a good vehicle team. And 3 AV vs. 1 vehicle should go either way.
As it stands 3 av guys in the starter anti-armor fit can render even fairly decent pilots and vehicle guys useless. For any of us that are average at best and want to try our hand at flying or driving, vehicles are basically a quick way to burn through a million ISK for no wins, no wins at all. |
