[This has probably been discussed a lot before but i searched, couldn't find the thread]
Since a player loses all his/her equipped items when they die, it would be a cool option for at least one of the equipped weapons to drop and be available on the ground [next to the corpse] for anyone else to pick up, and swap with the weapon they are currently using.
Of course may other FPS' do this same thing, but particularly relevant here is that in EVE, killing some one else's ship leaves a random assortment of modules behind that survived the explosion-- hence you can salvage other player's weapons and take them for yourself after killing them.
Dust is sorta missing this mechanic, and i have often found myself in a situation low on ammo, where i'd love to pickup /swap my weapon for whatever the other guy was using before he died. . . but I can't.
Of course if you don't have the skills to use that weapon type, the dropped item should show in red or something, indicating that you cannot use that yet. Same if the pickup item has no valid suit-slot to swap into.
Ultimately it would be a cool reward/sideEffect to players who did not specialize in any single weapon and instead spread their skill points across many weapons. The trade off for not being great in a single weapon would be the ability to pick up different types from the battlefield and use them in a pinch.
And if battlefield litter is an issue, have the dropped weapon disintegrate along with the enemy corpse if it is not used, so there is a time limit that any other player can swap with what's on the ground. |

There's no honor in using your enemies guns against them.

The peoples bodies disintegrate or something shortly after being killed, hence why this wouldn't work. |

Hmm, no dont think that would work but i do think you should be able to salvage the weapon or equipment your enemies died using. |

I would like it if salvage was based off of equipment your enemies were using as well as the random proto drops. |

+1 and bump
Been thinking about this myself recently.
currently the salvage system is just a lucky dip, it would kinda make sense to tie it in to the life cycle system that Dust has going on; i.e. when you die on the battlefield your gear doesn't just vanish, it hangs around for a little while and is available as a pickup. Makes more sense (to me) than the current system of randomly awarding salvage at the end of the match that isn't based on anything you have or haven't done, It might even tempt the snipers down from their mountain tops... |
