I'm going to do my best not to rage or flame within this thread.
Dear CCP,
I understand the economy of this game needs to be healthy. I understand that money in / money out needs to be nearly even. However, the lifestyle created in this game is frustrating me to no end. Now, before I go on, let me say, I am not a very good player and if I were, and I "learn to play" then perhaps I would see a bigger paycheck at the end of a match. With that said, I believe I have completely screwed up my character. I went rushing to be a tank / HAV pilot. I can not run infantry gear stronger than militia and I know that ends up hurting me so badly because I just get stopped in games, do not get kills, and do not have the damage to typically kill an enemy first. Again, I am a bit of a noob at fps's and yes, this is my problem and not a problem in the game. However, being in this game and focusing on being a talk pilot, I should shine at running HAV's, right?
Well, I've found some very interesting things so far in game. A friend with a Basic Forge Gun, and myself and one other friend with militia swarm launchers can not seem to kill tanks on the field when we work together. 3 guys... not killing a tank. ...and I think wow.. that's awesome, you need a solid team to take one out. Now lets consider myself... I run Caldari tanks and I am naturally building shield tanks on them. I am not running militia HAV's. I'm running a basic tank. I am running basic and advanced items on the tank. I am running resistances, bigger shields, shield boosters, and even an active shield resist on top of the passive. To that I also add in a damage control unit. Again, all these items are at least basic if not advanced.. no militia vehicle gear.
Well, I find that just 1 guy with a forge gun blows up my tank within 20 seconds of it landing. Just 1 guy. How is it that just 1 guy can take out a tank by himself where 3 of us couldn't take out a tank before. I have spent every skill point over the past week raising my engineering skills to build stronger and stronger shields & resists. I have continued to get murdered in nearly every match i play just so I can make scraps of isk because I didn't focus in weaponry just so I could get into a tank. I feel so defeated.
So this tank is my primary role and I cant afford it. The first week of this build, I get it. I started off with minimal skills and had to continue to work up my surviveability and even then there was the Orbital strikes every 20 - 30 seconds and most of the time my tank wouldn't last but a few seconds on the map. Generally less than 1 minute. The past 4 days I've been trying to build up my skills even more and slowly build up enough cash to afford a tank. The tank wasn't in game 3 minutes and was dead. Now, stuff happens and this is New Eden and I get that. ...but come on, I don't make 1/10 of what it takes to buy and outfit even a basic tank in a match. I get to pull out 1 tank every couple of days if I'm lucky. I'm living paycheck to paycheck and it's killing me.
Further note: when i am on the field with a gun, I'm generally trying to play support. As a logi, if my repair tool is active on a person when they get a kill, shouldn't I at least get an assist? That isn't happening and perhaps that is another topic for another thread. ...and I'm not talking Warpoints here, I'm talking assists in kills... assists I am not getting, cash I am not getting.
I am angry, I am frustrated, and I'm unsure what to do. I'm trying really hard not to ***** but I'm just expressing that I am at a loss here and If I could, I would completely start my character differently but I set him on this path and at this pint I will need to wait till next wednesday before I can really start a refocus because of the limited skillpoints i'm getting as is.
So - I am providing feedback to you.... now I ask you to provide me feedback as well because I need some feedback, suggestion, or tips because while I try really hard I just feel that I have completely wrecked myself in this game.
Thank you for your time, Chipuwa TRM |

I'm not a pilot, but I'm not really sure how anyone is suppose to make a living with piloting as their main career in the game. The cheapest tanks and dropships cost 130K-150K even without all the modules, so if one of them is destroyed in battle then you're basically not making a profit, and its pretty easy for them to be destroyed by 1 or 2 forge gun users.
If vehicles will stay very weak against AV, then their price should reflect that. An alternative would be to buff them, but I really don't want to see indestructible super tanks just because people have the money for them, so I would much much much rather see super cheapened currently weak vehicles on the battlefield. 50K-80K for a militia dropship and militia HAV ideally. |

This. The only reason why I don't tank is this exact reason. If I do, it's not going to profit. Hopefully, the MTAC's are cheaper than that... |

Diversify.
I agree that the current HAV situation sucks and there's little we can do about it. And I hope CCP takes some of that in consideration when balancing the modules and/or prices involved.
But until then, you need to diversify, and that means getting used to more than one thing.
You've admitted you suck at infantry. So do I. Before I covered this by being a Logibro and healing/rezzing peeps. And it paid good money, until they changed the ability to select items with the mousewheel into having to hold down CapsLock and select on that stupid compass rose. So that went away. And infantry is obviously out.
The other option is to get used to driving other vehicles. Dropships are out because they are even bigger targets that often don't have cover. Your remaining choice is to get good with LAV's.
Get good with driving them. Get good at gunning in them. Get good at switching between them. You can make a Saga build that can easily tank a Forge-gun round or a couple of AV "mines" (you can barely tank them in a well-fitted Onikuma). You have the advantage of speed and can always flee the scene if things are going south, which you will often have to do.
Ride around like a Hells Angel or a Son of Anarchy for awhile until you scrape up the cash to go all A-Team with your improvised vehicle.
Hopefully CCP will make things better for vehicle peeps, but if and until they do, you need another option. Fortunately, in teching up to Tanks, you get all the LAV stuff. You can throw down in Racial LAV's I, and you already had to go the rocket and railgun route with small turrets up to IV, so you're good there.
Learn to love the LAV. |
