Just in case you need clarification about the current system: People show up on the map when they are being looked at by an enemy, and they are within spotting range. When someone is spotted, they show up to everyone on the enemy team. Spotting can be escaped simply getting out of the field of vision of the enemy. Dropsuit signature is how easily you can be detected by an enemy. There are skills and modules to increase it, and there are modules to make spotting enemies better and at farther ranges. Firing your weapon has no effect on this. This is why people can show up on the map even without you or your squad mates seeing them, or them firing their gun. Others on your team can be seeing them, and broadcasting their location to you.
With your example you mentioned none of your allies saw the enemy, how can you be sure?
My opinion: I think the current spotting system makes sense considering these are futuristic suits. Why wouldn't an onboard computer broadcast the location of enemies to all teammates, but instead make you actively have to do it yourself?
I also think that nearby gunshots fired in one's radius should show up on one's minimap as well as the HUD overlay. The radius of detection can be around 20 meters, and maybe depend on skills, and equipment relevant to stealth and sensing. This means if you sneak up behind an enemy, and fire your gun close to him, you will be detected.
Such a system would open up the possibility for a new variant of guns; stealth guns. A stealth variant of a gun could remain undetected while firing within the outer region of the gunshot detection radius, but not everywhere within the radius. Example: A stealth variant SMG can fire within 20 meter detection radius of an enemy, and still not be detected by the enemy's suit, but if the stealth SMG if fired within 5 meters of the the enemy, then the person firing the stealth variant SMG would be detected.
Tacnet system can identify all friendly locations (like when opening the map and seeing all the friendly dots). If the locations of the friendlies are tracked, then all it has to do is ignore weapon discharge from locations matching friendlies. The technology is there. |
