People are complaining about the SP cap and system in general. I have an alternate solution to this issue than any I've seen. Make ISK more useful, so that when that SP cap has been hit people won't gripe since they can still grind for ISK. A lot of the issue that people who hate the SP cap have is that they are feeling left out and aren't getting any worthwhile return for the same level of effort they are putting into the game.
The rest of the problem is that a lot of people are on a buy-what-I-need, fight, buy-what-I-need, fight, etc. grind cycle with no ability to spend ISK on things they want instead of what they need.
I'm not suggesting you do all of this right away mind you, but it will help keep people coming back after they are starting to see severely diminished SP rewards. Here are some thoughts:
1. Start to scale up ISK returns once players reach the halfway-three quarters mark to the SP cap
2. Weapon visual customization (think Black Ops, make a player stamp and tag you can put on it, perhaps your corp tag or squad tag, color/camo options)
3. Dropsuit appearance customization
4. Vehicle decals and appearance customization
5. Attachable weapon sight alternatives
6. Make some augmentations that require ISK
7. Give boosters the option to spend 20,000,000 ISK to increase the effectiveness of their one day AUR booster by 20%, scale that amount up by booster length. I hate math, you do it.
8. Make BPO items have an alternate buy option of either 30 AUR or 300.000 ISK per mdule, 500,000 per equipment, and bring back BPO dropsuits and make them 700,000 ISK / 70 AUR. There will still be plenty of people who will rather spend their cash on them than grind for them, so CCP will still get paid. Also, BPO vehicles. You can decide the price. Give them very low CPU/PG values to keep them from over running the map and only allow one BPO vehicle to be called in per match per player.
9. Make a BPO item in each tier with very high CPU/PG usage of all items except dropsuits and each tier up you add 2 0's to the price tag I mentioned earlier. No AUR purchases (to keep it fair for those without the cash for BPO, it would be insane for people who had to grind 300,000,000 for an item when someone else could just put it on a credit card)
I know some of these prices sound insane, but with corp battles and such, not to mention increased ISK gain once you hit a certain point in your SP gain for the week, this would give people a reason to grind for cash and not sweat their lack of SP growth, wile casual gamers can keep the cap and not be left too far behind too quickly.
I know what you'll say. "ISK is already a mandatory thing for most people since we loose boatloads every time we die", and "ISK is already tight enough as it is". Beyond those and other excuses, does anyone have any thoughts? I know some of these have been suggested before, but I am suggesting them and similar ideas as a solution to the SP cap issue. I feel there is a big enough difference there to make it worth while to make a post for it. |
