I don't know if CCP is targeting Dust towards EVE/pc players or if they're targeting FPS-console players. But I'm reading posts from some eve players, subliminally suggesting that CCP should mostly follow their advice.....Especially when it comes to the whole sp cap situation. My thing is, and no disrespect intended, but you wouldn't follow the advice of baseball players over the advice of football players for a football product. I mean, if eve was an fps on the pc, then it could make sense....but it isn't.
As far as this cap is concerned, people who can't grind in dust because they're grinding in eve or whatever reason is going to favor the sp cap. But the hardcore dusters won't be in favor it, so CCP will have to play King Solomon. But, personally, it doesn't make sense to reward the casual gamer or penalize the hardcore (however you look at it) because some may play the game more than others. Plus, what's going to happen 6 months down the line and there is new blood to the game?? While the "pioneers" have already some advanced or prototype gear....they will be struggling for weeks trying to be able to keep up.
You have guys favoring the cap because they can play for a few hours a week and don't care about ISK because they'll be able to transfer ISK to themselves. So, how about that imbalance favoring eve players vs the guys that has to grind out in dust to earn isk? So, my original question remains.....
And I don't wish to start a pc vs console war. This is merely some thoughts for ccp to consider when they're trying to decide who's opinion to consider |

both. i really cant see the difference between a pc fpser and a console fpser as long as they get the balance right. we had turn speed to match controllers last build and ccp changed it. to me that itsnt balanced it wasjust something you deal with - watch the radar more etc |

Yeah, see I mentioned that it is understandable if it were between pc-fps and console fps'ers. But what we are getting are suggestions from players from a game that isn't an fps. Eve isn't an fps and I'm wondering and worried if CCP is leaning towards advice from players who aren't as experienced in the fps market as others.
Some of these fps players have participated in countless fps & third-ps betas for the console and they're input should weigh more than someone who's just tryng to make it into another rpg solely. I get that it is a mmofps and both inputs are needed. But when we are divided, CCP has a choice of which experience to prioritize. The fps or mmo?
I was under the impression that this was a fps first game. But either way, it only makes sense to prioritize the fps experience because they already have a mmo customer base. EVE players will play eve whether dust flops or not. But they don't have the fps playerbase locked in yet. Not to mention, if this game succeeds, how many more dusters may open eve accts. |

I'm sure I have read on numerous occasions now that CCP are trying to attract players OTHER than EvE players.
They are trying to expand their client base with a game dramatically different.
The clever ones out there should be able to work out what their next project might be.............(not the vampire thing).

I'm seeing Dust as a marketing vehicle to introduce the New Eden concept to console players. If the Dust ISK rewards stay small and ISK transfers from EVE to Dust happens, it will drive Dust players to EVE where they can make billions of ISK while CCP makes their cash. My point being that to get console players hooked on Dust and then drive them to EVE for funding and OB strikes, it needs to be a FPS first and reward player grinding, not cap it.
I am seriously considering getting an EVE account to generate ISK for my corp and toon, so CCP better listen to the console players regarding what they want in FPS MMO game. There are a ton more FPS'ers on PSN consoles than EVE'rs on Dust. It's a numbers game, cater to the ones with the greatest potential of future sales. |

It only makes sense...and honestly I'm not against a cap but this current cap system blows.
And just like you said, if they get console fps'ers hooked, then it will broaden their eve playerbase. But if they just cater to their eve players that play dust...then good luck |

both.
Listen to fps about shooter mechanics/gungame, if something needs more explanation for people that don't play eve. They will be able to provide better feedback about what is wrong with pace, hit-detection, and weapon balance. EvE players take many EvE specific knowledge for granted about fittings, cpu, pg, stacking ect... The fps players could better point out things that will confuse new players then EvE players that have stacking penalties memorized.
EvE players about skill system, market, fittings balance. These will tie in to eve and most be compatible. People that use fitting system for years already will break exploits faster to point them out to CCP.
Mods/mission types would need both. Fps players could better suggest balanced game mods and what will be fun. EvE players can help figure out how to fit it in universe and suggest things that make sense for infantry to affect in eve. |

I agree with Dave on this. Stuff new Eden. Where's my awesome moment to moment, fast and frantic FPS gone? My friends actually liked precursor except for the stability. |

you can play eve for free to! it just takes a few months and a good corp. to play eve for free you need enough in-game money to purchase a PLEX (Pilot License EXtension). The cap is something that can be moved I would agree to a 5 day hard cap. But it doesn't really fit with the rest of the universe. I agree CCP does see this as a tool to bring more players to the PC side of things. And how you train in eve is a set and forget method. It takes days to weeks to train and you can't really speed it up other then implants and a neural remap.
So instead of active boosters boosting during the cap. have it activate after the cap for bonus sp at a reduced rate. Cap its potential to 10k maximum. So that should make the 30 day booster viable for more involved players, and 7 day boosters preform better for the less involved gamer. This puts training more to things in eve as well having a set amount per week w/o implants, and extra xp per week for the implanted users. |

I think both sides need to mesh uniquely. Ten-sidhe put it best. FPS players should have there input here on weapon balance and fighting. Eve players need to think about a bigger questions. How should we fit this in with our spaceships? Why? And what actions to take to make both games fun for all parties. If we answer and understand these basic questions we wont have two games. The game isn't ready for the release if all of us can't find a balance between each other.
Lets push are selves here. This is the final sprint to the finish and we all need to step our imaginations up! |

I totally agree with this division of responsibility and I hope CCP monitors this and follow it. Eve players' suggestions shouldn't hold more weight than fps players when it comes to gameplay. And at the same time, eve players should be considered when it comes to mmo stuff.
But this is the question now.....what if there is an mmo problem (like the skill cap) that may be deal breakers for fps players? Should CCP listen to the fps players because they are trying to tap into the fps market? |

EVE dosn't interest me a good fps dose, they are trying to make this game a jack of all trades and by doing this they compromise the fps part.
Since this build I actually spend more time on the forum than testing (if you can call it that for all the good the input has done) the fun has gone out of the game but all you get is this is not your traditional fps from the eve crowd, ye I know it's pretty mediocre now and thats being generous |

The cap as it is does not prevent player disparity. It may reduce it between two players who started at the same time, but at the cost of ensuring it between two who sign up at different times.
My take is that CCP really set it up with the intention of limiting overal progress in order to keep anyone from maxing out before they have a chance to deepen or broaden the skill tree.
One way to accomplish all these goals is to have a single rolling cap that starts at day one and constantly increases at a fixed rate.
That would be quite similar to EVE in that EVE's max SP was set at launch and increments per minute. The difference is that DUST players would have to play to earn it. No-lifers could stay right at the cap all the time, while others could use whatever blocks of time they had to catch up as much as they could.
No-lifers would still feel the frustration, but it wouldn't be directed at players with fewer hours to spend. New players would not have any built in disadvantage and could spend all the time they wanted leveling up to the current cap. |

@ OP : Pretty much the majority of everyone who posts is going to say "Oh, oh! Me me! Listen to me!" Like a kid in elementary school. Not all of these people are badposters, but a large chunk of them are. Nor are they all Eve players, for that matter. Not that CCP ignores badposters if they occasionally have good ideas, but they generally put more weight behind the posts of goodposters. CCP reads and listens to everything. But they'll probably give your posts more consideration if the post is good, constructive, and decently written, even if it's not a massive essay like some of us write. (Food for thought for the people who complain in nonconstructive threads... Pretty much : Don't be a jerk if you want people to take you seriously)
The whole eve vs FPS thing is mostly started by badposters just trying to stir up the forums. A large portion of eve players are also FPS players, or they wouldn't be interested in Dust. Only a small minority of eve players picked up dust because it was related to eve without being someone who usually plays FPS games.
I'd say the issue is moot, but there is no issue here in the first place. Only the perception of one! :)

The trouble starts with the words "should be more like EvE" in any discussion about the FPS balance/mechanics/gameplay. It then becomes a stereotype, and we start tarring everyone with the same brush. |

A well written condescending post as always knife. You must be a headmaster / bank manager or the like.
Problem is the last line of your post. You should maybe get off IRC and read some of these banal threads and posts before making assumptions like that. |
