I don't know if CCP is targeting Dust towards EVE/pc players or if they're targeting FPS-console players. But I'm reading posts from some eve players, subliminally suggesting that CCP should mostly follow their advice.....Especially when it comes to the whole sp cap situation. My thing is, and no disrespect intended, but you wouldn't follow the advice of baseball players over the advice of football players for a football product. I mean, if eve was an fps on the pc, then it could make sense....but it isn't.
As far as this cap is concerned, people who can't grind in dust because they're grinding in eve or whatever reason is going to favor the sp cap. But the hardcore dusters won't be in favor it, so CCP will have to play King Solomon. But, personally, it doesn't make sense to reward the casual gamer or penalize the hardcore (however you look at it) because some may play the game more than others. Plus, what's going to happen 6 months down the line and there is new blood to the game?? While the "pioneers" have already some advanced or prototype gear....they will be struggling for weeks trying to be able to keep up.
You have guys favoring the cap because they can play for a few hours a week and don't care about ISK because they'll be able to transfer ISK to themselves. So, how about that imbalance favoring eve players vs the guys that has to grind out in dust to earn isk? So, my original question remains.....
And I don't wish to start a pc vs console war. This is merely some thoughts for ccp to consider when they're trying to decide who's opinion to consider |

Cpl Quartz wrote:both. i really cant see the difference between a pc fpser and a console fpser as long as they get the balance right. we had turn speed to match controllers last build and ccp changed it. to me that itsnt balanced it wasjust something you deal with - watch the radar more etc
Yeah, see I mentioned that it is understandable if it were between pc-fps and console fps'ers. But what we are getting are suggestions from players from a game that isn't an fps. Eve isn't an fps and I'm wondering and worried if CCP is leaning towards advice from players who aren't as experienced in the fps market as others.
Some of these fps players have participated in countless fps & third-ps betas for the console and they're input should weigh more than someone who's just tryng to make it into another rpg solely. I get that it is a mmofps and both inputs are needed. But when we are divided, CCP has a choice of which experience to prioritize. The fps or mmo?
I was under the impression that this was a fps first game. But either way, it only makes sense to prioritize the fps experience because they already have a mmo customer base. EVE players will play eve whether dust flops or not. But they don't have the fps playerbase locked in yet. Not to mention, if this game succeeds, how many more dusters may open eve accts. |

If the Dust ISK rewards stay small and ISK transfers from EVE to Dust happens, it will drive Dust players to EVE where they can make billions of ISK while CCP makes their cash. My point being that to get console players hooked on Dust and then drive them to EVE for funding and OB strikes, it needs to be a FPS first and reward player grinding, not cap it.
I am seriously considering getting an EVE account to generate ISK for my corp and toon, so CCP better listen to the console players regarding what they want in FPS MMO game. There are a ton more FPS'ers on PSN consoles than EVE'rs on Dust. It's a numbers game, cater to the ones with the greatest potential of future sales.
It only makes sense...and honestly I'm not against a cap but this current cap system blows.
And just like you said, if they get console fps'ers hooked, then it will broaden their eve playerbase. But if they just cater to their eve players that play dust...then good luck |

Eve players need to think about a bigger questions. How should we fit this in with our spaceships? Why? And what actions to take to make both games fun for all parties. If we answer and understand these basic questions we wont have two games. The game isn't ready for the release if all of us can't find a balance between each other.
Lets push are selves here. This is the final sprint to the finish and we all need to step our imaginations up!
I totally agree with this division of responsibility and I hope CCP monitors this and follow it. Eve players' suggestions shouldn't hold more weight than fps players when it comes to gameplay. And at the same time, eve players should be considered when it comes to mmo stuff.
But this is the question now.....what if there is an mmo problem (like the skill cap) that may be deal breakers for fps players? Should CCP listen to the fps players because they are trying to tap into the fps market? |
