Assault rifle sounds too much like a regular boring old military FPS assault rifle, and not really scifi. I would prefer it if it sounded more scifi, the gun is shooting burning hot plasma, so I think that warrants a more interesting sound than a standard assault rifle noise. The sound doesn't have to be some kind of "peew peew" (though I would be ok with that), Ideally it should reflect the sound of burning plasma being blasted at high speeds and ripping through the air, and maybe the sound of the internal machinery of the gun as it produces the plasma.
Same goes for the shotgun since it is a plasma weapon as well.
[MODELS]
Weapon models are pretty much ok (or awesome for some) for the most part, but I really can't stand the assault rifle's model. I'm not sure why, but I think it has to do with the angular downward slope of the top front end of it, the way the black part in the back merges with the rail, and how some of the details on the gun look up close. The assault rifle model looks good from a full view (like when the character raises it up when reloading), but when holding it normally it just looked really ugly to me.
There might have been a problem in translating the concept art to a 3D model, because I thought the gun looked really amazing when I first saw the art.
The gun lacks the kind of curvy organic elegance you would expect from something Gallente. The previous assault rifle model we saw in the earlier Dust 514 footage lacked the sci fi flare of the current assault rifle, but it had a beautiful curvy shape that the current assault rifle lacks. Here are some example of what Gallente ships look like: here, here, notice how stylishly curved they are.
I would really like a more curved assault rifle gun model that fits the theme of Gallente stuff. I found some gun models on DeviantART that reflect the kind of look I would like for the assault rifle: this (very strange and awesome), and this (conventional, but still curvy awesome). I don't play Halo, but their alien guns also seem similar to what a Gallente gun should look like, click here, notice the elegant curves. All that is missing is a shade of green on these models.
While checking out some gun models from various games and things, I stumbled across this, and I really like how you can see a glimpse of the gun's internal glowing processes through the crevices on the gun while it fires.
These are non-essential minors details, but minor details add up to a big difference.
Oh, if you didn't already, click this, just because its pretty.

Grenade explosions are also bland and lacking visually. It would be better if the explosion radius was represented by a growing orb of bright light, or something else more flashy and sci fi.
Sniper rifle shots hitting someone or something should have an electrical discharge visual effect. Sniper rifles are railguns, and other railguns (forge guns, railgun installations, railgun vehicle turrets) have an electrical visual effect around where they shoot. |

About the sounds ... you're right ... I think it needs to see some love from the developers.
And i just have to repeat myself about the models ... You're right about those too!

Hopefully the scrambler rifles (I assume will be the Amarr racial variant of assault rifles) will look cool so I can use that instead when I need an AR, Amarr stuff usually does. |

Agreed, a hissing sound might be more fitting for glowing hot plasma. And it would be nice to have an impact sound when hit by bullets. Many a time i've been tagged by a sniper shot in a cqc battle with a different enemy and failed to notice my health drop, thereby resulting in my death. |
