IGÇÖve waited to see how Dust develops before speaking on what I believe will make this one of the best games in history. Games come and go but the greats have always been remembered; Doom, Quake, World of Warcraft, 007, Contra, EVE, Halo, just to name a few. Dust has the ability to be the number one game to date. We are all very fortunate to be part of its creation, but as Playstation and CCP come together to provide us with this magnificent game, we must make sure that balance is kept. We must make sure that this game does not fold to the guys of individuals whom have the attention span of gnats.
Skill Points need to be rationed out thus forcing players to make more selective choices in the creation of the mercenary that will represent them and their play style. ISK must be limited as to create a sense of value in every suit, vehicle, gun and module that every individual loses. The limitations that keeps players attracted to their name sake is one of the most valuable assets in any video game, for once players are given the ability to change names without any loss of skills or assets they no longer need to be leery of decisions they make when speaking.
The beauty of EVE has always been those that tend to run their mouths reap what they sow . If this is to be a first person shooter which sets itself apart from the rest and desires to entice players who are one notch above all others, they must continue with EVEGÇÖs tradition of keeping players attached to their reputations. For those players that want to skill up within a few months, have unlimited access to weapons and gear, the ability to occasionally hit up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, start, those players should go to Halo 4 or Call of Duty and remain there. For those select players looking to show their ability, looking to grow and develop, looking to form long lasting friendships, they should remain. For here they will be able to forge a reputation that will follow them throughout their Dust and EVE life span. CCP and Playstation, I beg you to not turn Dust 514 into another shelter for talentless non-gaming children. We already have one World of Warcraft in this world, we donGÇÖt need another. To all the great players IGÇÖve had the fortune of playing with and against, I look forward to seeing you on the battlefield, whether at my side or in my scope. For those talentless hacks that run their mouths, yet have absolutely nothing to show for it, I look forward to seeing you crumble as Dust expands. Let this game set itself apart from all others by being the game which all great players go to.

Eve lore or universe, wont hold me to this game if it's not fun, fluid and rewarding to play. It's supposed to bee a FPS first and formost so should excel in this are which this build it is not.
I agree decisions should have a consequence but not at the expense of fun and accessibility. Why should SP be rationed ? If I wanted a slow trickle of SP I can go play eve for years not a console fps that to me is makeing you grind for no reward, play to good you hit the sp cap play to long you hit the same cap.
Funny game where you get punished for being good or having time, trouble is this is not a pc niche game it's on console and being such your eve frame of mind will not go down to well with people who as you say have the attention span of gnats, they will simply go play a more rewarding and fun game |

As for having an Eve mentality, I can live with that. I left every game I played after seeing how easy it was or how it was catering to the lowest denominator. Eve did not do that, and I can appreciate that. SP rationing is crucial to the creation of specialized players. It allows players that are not good at a certain aspect of the game to specialize in something else and still have a home in a squad or a place on the battlefield.
As for the no reward statement, there are rewards they just take longer to get and being that its hard to get them, they have a tendency to mean more. There is a reason that most first person shooters last a few months then fold up, or make sequels is because they cater to the lowest denominator. The person with nothing more than a point and shoot mentality, with no thought in character creation or development. The type that can only push a few buttons and move a joystick. All first person shooters tend to mimic one another and just like lemmings, go in the same direction. The players then jump into game after game doing the same routine and running around like mice in a maze.
I donGÇÖt want Dust to just be another FPS, I want it to set a trend, I want it to make players think their decisions through, I want it to be a challenge, I want to play it for months trying to get my Mercenary to the next level. To be frank I want it to deter players like you, I want you to go back to your Call of Duties, and Halos, for you donGÇÖt really belong here, your out of your league. Your not used to having to think and play and in this game, that will get you killed.

Fun, fluid and rewarding is always subjective. Everyone of us have different definition of fun. Everyone of us have different preferance of game pace. Everyone of us look for different reward in the game.
They can't satisfy everyone. One game can only be one single game. You either adapt to it or you move on to other game.
I don't mind the faster gunfight last build and I don't mind slower gunfight this build. I don't mind unlimited SP grind and I don't mind diminishing return (I do loathe the hard cap tho) I don't mind active SP gain and I don't mind entirely passive SP gain. You can prefer one or another but I don't think you can call either one of them broken.
It is just a gameplay.

the reward is that you built it! you took the time, organized, you spent the money, you've planned and executed that plan that is the game that is the reward. your thoughts are shallow its not if your good its weather u can plan effectively to where your sp goes when you hit the cap. |

Excellent postings Punisher!
It's amazing, I came into this game thinking a certain way, playing a certain way, and quite honestly I was absolutely blind to the sheer depth and complexity of Dust and EVE. Playing with you and heeding your advice has helped me realize what Dust is supposed to be, and the potential it has not only to be a revolutionizing game, but to make me a better gamer as well. The standard FPS mindset just doesn't apply with Dust.
Sure I may complain about certain things (I complain lot, I know, I'm truly trying to cut back), but I keep coming back to the game night after night because I am having an absolute blast playing with our corp members. In so many ways the way I play this game reminds me of how I played Killzone 2, and how rewarding it is to be with a great clan/corp, fighting battles, organizing clan battles, winning clan battles, taking/giving orders, having good laughs, and even having bad times and not doing so well... Dust has given that back to me. I may have to restart my game 30 times a night just to play a handful of decent somewhat lag-free matches, but despite having to do that I keep coming back. That has got to say something. |

I just don't see the whole 'greatest game evah!' angle. It's an ok thesis but what is there to support it? I think the majority of ppl, including myself, in this beta had very high hopes for Dust but so far it's been a protracted process without a strong progress vector.
As for the second point about keeping rewards challenging. I would agree about limitting access to SP simply because Dust (and again even this of course would be a point of dispute) should be long running project with the idea that players will stay with it for years and character development should be paced accordingly. The other idea, though, about keeping ISK rewards limitted, is shortsighted. One way or another in FPS players burn through kills too dam fast. If isk is limitted you would A) confine players to boring low level gear and B) force boring defensive game play where people are not willing to risk more expensive fits. This formula is just not suitable for an FPS. Instead, there should be gradation so that cheap suits are not desirable and too cheap, medium range suits are worth risking, high priced suits to save for choice battles and then prime stuff for ppl with deep pockets (this should be superior suits weapons outperforming everything else by a mile but also very expensive so that risking them would feel real. |

Great the troll smells food... If you have so many issues and dislikes with the game, why are you here on its forums? As stated before this game is not made for your typical FPS players. Why don't you simple minded people understand that? It's not Rainbow 6, it's not Halo, it's not Call of Duty, it's an EVE based game built around character development and game community interaction. It just happens to be in a first person format but if it was intended to be aimed at FPS players they would have never connected it to EVE, now go back to your cave troll. |

LOL Ill show you arrogant, keep your name going into the real launch, and watch any corp your in lose every battle they go in. Ill fight for the opposing force for free =)
(FYI check your kill boards and you'll see I can hold my own)
But other then that I'm am not looking down at anyone, only speaking on what everyone already knows. Ps3 needs a game to help show gamers they have an internet system, Xbox live has killed them, and its showing to be a huge revenue source for Microsoft. To be honest I would guess PS needed ccp to keep the game exclusive to them thus forcing players to use the PS Network, which in comparison to Xbox live lacks in every aspect.
The only reason I posted was to keep this game moving in a positive direction and to keep the degree of difficulty higher then other FPS games. I want it to be something i can play for years not months...

Let this game set itself apart from all others by being the game which all great players go to. www.hellstorm.org
This is exactly why I posted what I posted earlier today. Eve players trying to turn Dust into eve. Allow dust to be its own game that's connected to eve. Sure there should be similarities but dust is a shooter. And that passive skill point system will not work for fps players.

Has nothing to do with the games you mentioned. Dust514 is a completely diff game than these and plays in... the other league in which no other game has ever been before. |

I don't even know how to respond to you. Print out the forum post, take it to your parents and ask them what I said, if you cant comprehend English, don't bother responding.
Those games were posted in reference to great games of the past. |

Really? It's based off of EVE to move from place to place is going to require EVE. Pilots in EVE will be helping you fight battles on planets, the corporations you belong to will be based out of EVE the markets will be connected to one another, in no way shape or form are these games going to be separated. This is not your typical FPS this is something more and its sad a lot of you can't understand that. And when in reference to the passive system, let me repeat, this is not your typical FPS. It's something new, it's something different. |

It plays more like a battle field game than you realise only more sluggish and thats not different. Oh wait I can get blasted from orbit now and again, but then again I can get shot from the sky in a bf game. As for the market got to see it first before I can comment, so this is your typical fps only pretending to be different. |

It may seem like a standard FPS right now, but once it gets connected to EVE I believe the dynamic of the game will change completely. There is also a lot of things CCP still hasn't added to the game, I'm not exactly sure what they will be adding, but based on what the experienced EVE players are saying, the potential is really quite amazing.
