Or are the SMG and Scrambler Pistol all we are getting?
wish we had more choices for sidearms. |

regarding SMGs - crap for range. crap for damage unless you are literally right on top of an enemy.
ugh, i hate these things so much. but they are all I can use when I am holding a swarm launcher.
I'm obviously not doing SMGs right. but to me, they suck ass. please tell me it gets better when i skill up the smg skillbooks. |

I think SMG damage is great. It is akin to HMG, low dmg per bullet but high rate of fire. Both weapon need you to be able to hold your aim at enemy long enough to do any real damage unlike AR. Its range certainly suck though. But as an AV you should run away from other infantry anyway. The only time you will use your SMG would be when you have nowhere to run and you wait your pursuiter around the corner/cover. |

Nova knives are sidearms, but militia shotguns are cheaper and make them useless in every way, plus they have to charge (and you can't run while charging) making them useless against moving targets. |

I say he has a valid concern. As is players are disincetivized from using AV weapons because there is not not enough team work. If you are running solo, and lets face it - at this point of beta this is 90% of us out there, you just can't afford to play in AV role as it leaves you completely exposed to infantry with nothing to defend yourself with. SMG in this build is a joke, but used to hold its own in the past build, though. If SMG had a moderate boost to range and spread, the problem would be sold. I would say SMG should be effective out to 20m or about 60ft - it's not too far to get into the range of primary weapons and would make it usable. |

yeah not looking for a super-killer weapon. just a decent personal defense weapon.

Scrambler pistol is my favorite. SMG feels a bit too much like pray and spray for me.
But the gun ? well used it's a real *****. Especially with the new skill operation that adds 1 ammo per clip per level. Two levels and you have 8 ammo firing something like 80 to a hundred damage.
Killed a lot of people with it and my swarm launcher.
Also, playing AV is kinda supposed to make you string against vehicles and weaker against infantry... If there's no team play, maybe you should get a team |

I'm trying out the Pistol now. Thing hits pretty hard for a pistol. Need some practice on the aiming though. I'll get it with time. i find I do better if I shoot slowly with the pistol, but my natural instinct is to spam the fire button. gotta break out of that.
either way, I'm asking about Variety, moreso than effectiveness. there's only 2 types of sidearm. wondering if there would be any more.
deleted the rest of your response, cause it was irrelevant to the discussion at hand, and incredibly douchebag-ish. |

my reason for asking is because normally in shooters, Sidearms are neglected and not developed cause nobody really uses them. there's usually no need. Pistols and such are usually just "last resot if you are out of ammo for everything else" weapons that nobody seriously expects to get a kill with.
however, for AVs it happens to be essential, in this game at least. so hopefully the sidearms are developed as much as the regular weapons are.

My advice would be, play AV when needed. As in, supply depots are maybe the most valuable assets in the game, way as usefull as CRU imo. Allows you to just draw AV fit when needed and go back to a more versatile fit quickly.
Shame most ambush maps dont have even one of those depot |

I find it just my luck that as soon as I switch out to an Anti-Infantry fitting and get going, I gotta run right back to the supply depot cause a bunch of balochs start running around, and I am usually one of the few(if not the only) AV Primaries on the team. (everyone else just uses the Anti-Armor starter fit when needed) lol. YMMV though, my luck is terrible. |

lurking around the supply depot with an LAV ready to go is often a good move ^^ Especially when they will take off the AV\mine Nades. |

People all complaining about SMGs because they expect them to be mini ARs.
I've killed as many as I've died to while running SMG on all chars, including a pure scout-suit build.
Yes, they have no range, that's not what they're there for. They're there to lure enemies around corners or sneak up on them and be able to unload into their face from 8m and closer. A scout with only militia suit and gun has dropped a number of lvl 2 AR assaults just by knowing the battlefield and obstructions and using them to draw the enemy closer. While it can still be a close duel if the opponent is pristine with his shots the SMG will generally come out on top because at that range you're hitting with everything which is 10x the bullet count in half the amount of time.
Think of SMGs more like the rapid-fire pistols from MAG, not like what people are used to them being from so many other games. |

If you play it smart and use the nova knife as a stealth sidearm, it can be invaluable as long as you keep a more conventional weapon drawn when not at close range |

I tell everyone pistols are where it's at. But they take a bit more skill and control than the SMG which I guess turns a lot of people off from them. |

However I like some unique side arm like cross bows or mortors
Along with a baby tesla gun or baby forge
Idea vortech carbine a gallente weapon that shoots pressurized air, it could be a ok damage short to lesser mid range weapon |

I never thougth about it that way,but you are totally right. It's just like an automatic pistol and a LOT less like a KP5,or the P90.
As a matter of fact, now that I think of it,it's a bit of a misnomer to even call it an SMG,since it truly is an auto pistol. It's magazine is fed though the bottom of the gun grip like an Uzi,and not the bottom of the stock like a MP5.
It would really bring a lot more clarity if it were relabeled as and auto pistol.Furthermore,it could give them a reason to include real SMGs into the game.
