I fly a Dropship. but the problem I keep running into is that in order to run a good Dropship I have to forgo most traditional infantry skills and I can't make enough ISK flying to avoid Ground combat. the way I see it there are 3 options to solve this problem.
1. make vehicles cheap: -the Good- flying/ being a tanker is profitable and a worthwhile pursuit. -the Bad- Cheap vehicles mean lots of them thus inundating the battlefield with militia tanks and Dropships making infantry combat obsolete.
2. make AV hard to get: -the Good- Dropships and tanks last longer thus pilots profit -the Bad- one man with a tank or dropship could dominate the entire match.
3. (my choice) introducing a rolling pay scale that covers higher cost items. why this is such a good Idea is that it doesn't upset the balance of the game and it doesn't only apply only to vehicles. if you go on to the battlefield in a full militia blueprint outfit you get payed a certain amount but if you go in running proto you are paid more by default because you are more affective on the battlefield. 75% of your equipment cost would be covered by the contract (to a point, like 1 mill ISK, simply to prevent people from calling in 8 tanks.) so you can still lose money and there is still risk. 40% profit on a match would be about standard.
At the moment I fly Because I enjoy it, not because I think for a second that there is any money in it. lets change that eh? |

Use militia items. Also, with the current ISK system, you get money just for showing up. No infantry skills needed. |

Every build so far I've found that I need to take a day job to support my flying hobby. It doesn't support the SP or ISK gains required on its own.
That was supposed to change in this build, but all we got was a ceiling with buffed AV.
I'm still hoping that piloting will become a feasible career path before release, but it's going to take quite a few changes.
1) Pilots will need to earn WP for their main mission, and not be forced to put out a tip jar for their gunners.
2) Dropships will need the tools to complete that mission. Right now they can't play transport without being taken out in thirty seconds. That will require a way to evade at least a couple flights of swarms during pickup or drop off.
3) All this should be dependant on player skill as much as character skills. That is to say there should be an opportunity to shine and display your prowess as a pilot. Success or failure should not be peordained or there is no challenge and no fun. |

I have no problem with my dropship picking people up or droping them off won't get me killed in 30 secs now it might hurt but it won't kill me and the only issue I got with dropships is the knockback from swarms if they balanced that out a bit then I would have no issue with it
Now as with money I normally get over 100k so I can stay in air most matches seeing how I don't get taken down often |

Had a skirmish match earlier today on the three letter map. There was a pilot in a Myron that was UNTOUCHABLE. He had a great ship and great pilot skills and single handedly won the game for his team. His gunners went 35-0, 22-0. The pilot was 0/0 but scored over 1000 warpoints. Very impressive. Had a lot of fun trying (and failing) to shoot him out of the sky. |

No infantry skills needed. with the current build I have to, and that's not the point. the goal of this thread was to make piloting a viable career instead of the joke that it is. if I wanted to be on the ground I would skill into it, but i don't. |
