I've decided to make this thread just because of how hard it is to get LAV gunners, and how bad some of the people that do gun are.
Fist off, for those of you with the courtesy to actually gun for an LAV driver that's just sitting around-
- I really appreciate that you actually want to help, but if you're in a blaster turret, try to watch the heat; too many times have they overheated, leaving the LAV helpless because the gunner won't let off the trigger for 2 seconds.
- Also try watching for people with AV weaponry, or anyone that the driver seems to be specifically driving towards
- Don't be afraid to jump out by an objective- if the turret can't cover you, the LAV will at least attract enemy fire while you hack.
Now to those of you who never seem to get into an LAV
- If you're almost dead and an LAV drives between you and your target, it's a little hint- jump in for a while so your shields can recharge (unless it's labeled as logistics- then it'll repair your armor/shields while giving you cover)
- Watch your labels- you may not want to get into an MLT (militia) but you probably want to hop in the turret of an STD (standard) and especially focus on protecting a logistics one (not sure what the label is). Unlike the militia tin cans you're probably used to seeing, these are more than capable of being effective on the battlefield, more so the less time they spend waiting for a gunner.
- Even if you don't want to be a gunner, the LAV is the fasted ride to where you need to be. If you don't have a way of specifying where you want to go, it'll at least drop you off at an objective.
I was going to list something about making the decision to destroy or hack an empty hostile LAV, but I don't know how to describe when the decision to destroy vs capture one is best. If someone can explain this well, please do, along with anything else you would like to add. |

I'd rather just jump in the passenger area and get a lift to a destination before bailing out. I agree that gunners should get some more protection, but some of it all depends on setup and driving style.
The problem is usually that people prefer rockets over blasters. This makes a problem: if you keep moving, the gunner can't hit anything, but if you stop, the gunner gets killed.
What I do (and I don't understand why other people don't do it too) is put a decent blaster turret on my LAV (the one that has increased range and accuracy, unlike the militia one that can't hit the broadside of a barn) then just keep moving; that way, the gunner can actually hit people without being a stationary target.
I can't wait until they add the new turret upgrades that are listed in the shop. Looks like they're going to a variety of things like increase stability, lower heat generation, and increase turret speed. |
