I give 75% credit for this idea to a friend of mine, Laz ulian sol.
So him and I talked about this, and after throwing a few numbers around, we both settled on this...
How about a persistent 5 wins in-a-row bonus? So if you win 5 games in a row, you get a bonus of 3k - 5k (CCP's discretion) SP.
This way not only does it make people want to play to win more than just boost or sit and snipe, but it also gives those of us who hit 0 SP earned 3 days into the reset something to fight for.
We were previously discussing a 10 wins bonus, then 10 consecutive, but we settled on 5, in order to compensate for the more casual players out there who don't roll with bigger corps, in order to give them a chance to earn some bonus SP as well.
5 wins in a row isn't as easy as it sounds, so it wouldn't be overly common, unless you're in a bigger corp that can field a lot of people. but even then, you're still likely to run into an equally sized corp, and you just have to hope you perform better. lose once, even if it's your fifth game, and bam, the counter starts over, no bonus.
again, Laz and I came up with this idea due to the fact that this game needs some way to keep the more... invested people playing past the 3-4 day mark, when they are gaining no SP from normal matches.
Furthermore, this bonus would be disabled in corp/alliance matches, as well as player contracted matches. (and PVE matches, if that is a thing).
only random/public matches will give this bonus.

Admittedly I haven't fully ran through every scenario with your idea, but on the whole I like it. People need a reason to fight - in a game that has stopped rewarding them. So, extra SP works, but I also like the idea of more rare (and usable or sellable) salvage. That was in another post somewhere.
The basic premise is of course to add an incentive to play. |

Also, on the subject of Active SP, they need to have a hardcap or a softcap, not both. |

I would agree with this as well. It seems they wanted to make it a... softened hard cap in order to drag it out and make people play more. which seems counter-productive seeing as they made the cap so low that the majority of my friends and I are already in the triple (some in double) digits, and some people who play even more than us are already at 0 SP.
if 3 days into the reset, people are running out of available skill points, and have nothing to look forward to in terms of upgrades for another 4 or so days.
I played EVE, I don't any more. There are reasons for that. I don't want DUST to be my next EVE. Great community, great developers, but I don't want to be playing a game until I'm 50 just so I can get awesome gear. I understand the importance of making the two similar, but .. whatever. anyway. baby steps. Bonus SP seems like a good way to take peoples minds off the fact they are doing jack-all to actually advance their characters. |
