The SP needed for weapons and dropsuits to skill up needs to be changed. I don't propose you change the skills or SP needed to unlock the weapons, just how long it will take to up their skill levels and access higher tiers.
SP needed for weaker and lower ranged weapons needs to be reduced since their usage is limited by their range/damage potential. With the possible exception of the shotgun, since it has such high damage output.
SP needed for heavy and high damage weapons needs to be increased since they are more useful in varied situations. With the exception of the swarm launcher since it has no real anti-infantry use outside of killing enemies inside vehicles.
SP needed for dropsuits needs to have 3 levels. The lowest SP needed should be for scouts, medium for logistics and assault, and the most for heavy.
Here's the groupings for weapons as I see them:
High SP Needed: Assault Rifle (this is the most dangerous weapon on the field, and as such should require more SP to skill up) HMG Forge Gun (already requires a full weaponry skill, but with it's damage output it still needs to cost more SP) Sniper Rifles
Medium (perhaps stick to the current amount) SP Needed: Shotgun Laser Rifle (because despite it's high damage potential, it's quirks warrant easier leveling) Mass Drivers (Because in matches with FF on this will be a difficult weapon to use properly, also it's not the easiest to aim) Swarm Launchers
Low SP Needed: Pistols SMG Nova Knives Any other sidearms they add.

From my limited experience in the beta and past experience with EVE; it seems to me that the SP needed for weapon skills are fine? Any weapon you choose to use doesn't really become effective until you train all the skills associated. New characters will always have a hard time keeping up with characters that are months, even years old. Thats why getting into a good corp will hopefully be a crucial part of the game. Maybe they could work on the rate of fire to balance things out a bit?
I have died a lot over the past 2 days i have been playing lol, most of it was because of something i did wrong; not because I was out gunned!
I think the suits are fine as well, that way someone who wants to play assault doesn't have to work his way through the other suits to get there. Just my thoughts.....again the suits will not truly become useful until you train the skills needed to fit your play style.
On another note, I seem to have bad luck with spawns? I always seem to spawn into a group of baddies or a precision strike raining down on me? If I had to change anything weapon wise, it would be that stupid precision strike! Nothing like getting hit with that over and over in a match.
