now please understand that i dont want this to turn into Ninja Gaiden 514 or anything but right now there is very little difference between the 3 tiers and the highest damage is right at 195 without mods.
I think thats fine for frontal damage but perhaps they should get a buff in damage % when you strike from behind or something. the weapon is really balanced (it requires a charge) so it'll never be an issue with people running around going all jason vorhees on people.
as a sidenote, the ability to use the knife when we hit R3 instead of the weapon butt would be cool since its already equipped. as long as it was uncharged and did less damage. |

There should be a lower charge but I haven't reached proto yet, I wouldn't bother using any of the other ones though.
Was wondering however whether the sidearm damage mod or the melee damage mod effects them now? |

No. I use nova knives all the time and there very good for stealth kills. You should never go head on at an enemy that has a gun with a knife. its common sense.
Ps. I am not saying you are going at them head on, I'm just saying it is not a good idea. |

I think it needs a slight range increase as you have to be basically touching a character to do damage and once you do that you end up bouncing through them and giving yourself away. |

I think it needs a distance buff. It's nothing like the MAG/COD knife in that it requires a player to switch to it and a charge time.
Also, all movement in this game needs an overhaul, including movement while using a Nova knife. |

A proto-nova knife would only have a .375 second charge time (-25% charge time from skill) so they probably don't need much of a buff. |

A militia shotgun currently renders Nova Knives COMPLETELY USELESS. Better range, cheaper. Nova Knives can't charge while running, so it renders them useless against mobile targets.
I have a solution to make them useful: here
copy/pasted here
Right now, there is no point in using the Nova Knives. The shotgun fulfills the purpose of close range one-hit kills better than the Nova Knives, and can be used at greater ranges than the Nova Knives. Basically, why bring knives to a gunfight? The Nova Knives are not as reliable for 1-hit kills as a sneaky shotgun to the upper body. A militia shotgun is not only more useful, but also actually cheaper than the cheapest set of Nova Knives.
An element of stealth and detection from gunshots would greatly improve the usefulness of the Nova Knives, regular melees, and other possible future melee weapons. I propose that nearby gunshots fired in one's radius shows up on one's minimap as well as the HUD overlay. The radius of detection can be around 20 meters, and maybe depend on skills, and equipment relevant to stealth and sensing. This means if you sneak up behind an enemy, and fire your gun close to him, you will be detected.
How is this relevant to Nova Knives you ask? It would make them useful; Nova Knives are not guns, therefore do not fire, and will not be detected. In such a stealth system, Nova Knives would be the perfect stealth weapon because one could use it to kill people from behind without being detected.
Such a system would open up the possibility for a new variant of guns; stealth guns. A stealth variant of a gun could remain undetected while firing within the outer region of the gunshot detection radius, but not everywhere within the radius. Example: A stealth variant SMG can fire within 20 meter detection radius of an enemy, and still not be detected by the enemy's suit, but if the stealth SMG if fired within 5 meters of the the enemy, then the person firing the stealth variant SMG would be detected. |

I think scout suits and nova knives are designed with cloaking in mind. Clearly running around with knives hoping to stab someone in the middle of a gun battle is a terrible idea, but it could be that they're not meant for use without the ability to turn partially invisible to move around more safely and sneak up on people. |

i figured it could use a small short range lunge which could be implemented for higher damage |

Being able to charge the knife while sprinting would go a long way.
Guns have a skill to carry more ammo, extend range, reduce cpu, and reload faster. Melee has a damage skill.
If we add a skill to use less stamina per swing and one to extend reach of swing they would have same number of skills available. I assume the side arm cpu reduction skill works with nova knives. |
