So.
made a new character.
not caring about anything other than killing with this guy. keeping a positive K/D ratio is my only focus.
trouble is, I'm a scrub. I can't shoot. I can't play. I'm terrible.
I play a support or stealth role of some sort in pretty much every game, because that is what I am usually good at. I've never been good at "gun game" (not that it is possible to have any "gun game" at all anymore since they nerfed the strafing speed).
and I never like vehicles, so I won't drive those. well maybe. we'll see.
but here, in Dust 514, the only support that really matters for Infantry is the nanite injector. maybe a nanohive here and there for some ammo. otherwise, doesn't matter, killing is the end all be all..
So I need to get good, so that I don't drag everyone else down. so help me out. show me some tips on how to not suck.
my initial theory is that since they nerfed circle strafing, I won't even look at a scout suit. so Assault it is. for now, i'm going to go out of my way to protect my K/D by trying as much as possible to only engage enemies when i have backup, and running from anything that might have a chance at killing me, and waiting to get the jump on them. can't fight head to head with anyone right now, I'll lose. I'm still running starter fits since I just started this character.
maybe once I get the hang of things, I'll consider being more aggressive.
first skirmish match I played with my new guy, I went 5/3, had 300-something WP (though the 5/3 is the more important figure there to me, with this character). Didn't feel very useful, but it was only my first match so it is bound to get better, right?
anyhow, I didn't bother hacking anything or dropping any equipment, focusing on getting good at the shooting first since I already know all the useless support crap pretty well.
so, help a scrub out, share some tips and pointers?
btw, this may seem sarcastic, but I assure you, its not. I'm not the type of person to deny my own shortcomings. I'm very honest about what I can and can't do, and that throws people off frequently. I'm really not super good at gunplay, thats why i play things where only a minimum of it is needed (like stealth or logi). I'm good enough to get things done, while in support roles, but thats about it. |

Skill up weaponry. Run complex damage modifiers and camp. Camping is beast on this build. Mess around with your rotation and see what works best for your playstlye. Start slow in roto and work your way up as you get a little better.
Stay close to he team, but not to close that you get hit by the inevitable nade spam. Oh and always stay calm in gunfights. Not that the gunfughts in this game will really get your adrenaline going but staying clam keeps your gun game precise. |

First mistake is thinking all that other crap is useless and k/d is supreme. The best way to help your team is not having a positive k/d but to actually help your team. Gun play and positive k/d come with practice. Find a heavy or a logibro and stick buy his/her side. Defend/cap a point/turret/clone bay. This is what wins games. You can go 4/6 but if u helped your team take a point or slaughter the camp at b. You did way more than the lonewolf who picked off the weak guys and went 10/2 or the guy who tried squishing ppl in his lav all match and went 13/0 |

You could also try playing a backup role
repair tool, revive and/or respawns
Stay at the back of your pack and don't stray to far from cover. Also, you can try and stay at captured objectives for defense and scouting. It's a bit boaring I know, but in corp battles, having at least one person there helps, that way, enemies can be spotted before they start hacking
Also, it's not working now for this build, but scanners are another support tacking, help your team out by finding enemies for them |

Dont do this damage mods r for "gun game" people also dont camp. If u like being stealthy start to skill up the scan stuff which makes u less visible to the enemy also put armor repair and armor plates to hlp if stuff gets sticky |

and yes, in case anyone is wondering, I'm quite bitter in regards to Stealth and Scouting being worthless, and regards to the Scout suit being seen as Just Another Assault Suit (tm).
but, New Eden Mentality, right. No use whining about it in multiple threads.

With strafing nutered damage output is very important for winning gunfights. |

Being a master is good, but you also need to be a jack of all trades to manage in this world.
Besides, considering how important turrets are in this game it's hard to see how you can find it difficult to do support roles. Get over your phobia of vehicles, spawn an LAW and grab those strategic positions. |

Definitely weaponry level 5 first. A logistic sniper with nanite injector and nanohive is a great support class. You can revive, replenish ammo, kill from a safe distance and even just spot with the sniper rifle. |

One does not simply teach a scrub how to play Dust 514.
I can give my tips however, so here goes.
-Logistics are severely under-rated for use as combat, you can run support and still be a slayer. -Use cover, don't stand in the open to shoot. -Speaking of standing in the open, never stand still, ever, even when hacking move in a small circle to deter sniper fire. -If you insist on using assault and not playing the reindeer games with everyone else, then carry a nanohive and use armor repper modules to be independent. -Melee is useful this build, use it in extremely close quarter combat. -Use assault rifles, they are ridiculously OP. -Don't engage enemies that don't know you are there at long range, get as close as you can before sneak attacking them. -HMGs seem to be extremely powerful this build, keep heavies at range from yourself. -If you call in a LAV or ride with another person driving one, keep an eye out for swarms/forges and bail at the first sight of them, LAVs are pathetically weak. -Don't attempt to snipe snipers with an AR, you will lose that battle. -Don't go into CQC with a shotgunner when using an AR, you will lose that battle too. -Stay out of the road, LAVs have a thing for running people over. -If you ignored number 4, then run with 1 or 2 other guys, no more because then you will be extremely likely to draw precision strikes upon yourself.
There are about a billion things to say, but these were just off the top of my head.

I would suggest joining a corp that has people playing so that they can help you.
ROFL Alliance has some corps that can help you learn to play better, and play with people that can help you. |

From what I'm understanding is that you understand the logi side of this game and want to be a more effective killer, so you can ignore most of the post giving you reasons why a logo is good to be.
If you want to learn how to kill effectively , don't worry about KDR this build, get into gun battles, fight to survive, die, and reflect on what went wrong. Roll with people that are better than you but not elite because they just kill everyone. You run with people better to pick their brain and find out what they use, and watch their tactics.
Survivability is key and is good to learn to run but it is also just as important when you know when is a good time to sacrifice a clone for the better of the team.
Use of cover is key in this build and I have found taking that lil bit of time to aim is life or death, especially at the head. Know whenn to ADS and when to hip fire. Cook grenades. |
