FF will be on in the serious part of the EVE universe, I think thats null. In high-sec (i think) where public matches and quick matches will occur it will be off for the little casual kids. |

Hmmm. Initially when I heard talk of friendly fire being implemented I didn't like the sound of it. But on second thoughts I think it should be implemented in high, low, & nul sec planets. It makes no sense to have a grenade go off near your feet or have an orbital strike lay waste to someone next to you but not harm yourself. With clones and equipment being lost when you get killed friendly fire is an obvious progression and should be implemented asap.

be warned when FF turns to be on what you gonna think happends to snipers? It will be like MAG where every sniper on your team either gets stabbed or shot in the back for not taking part in the fight. And i will do that every time i see a sniper when i spawned. Get to him and shot his face off. First and last warning from my side. |

Problem is that the game will be unable to tell the difference between an accidental team kill, and that of a provoked or meditated team kill. So you would punish everyone even for accidental? I can only imagine what would happen with OB (Oribital Strikes) then. |

while its up to ccp to decide, most tactical shooters allow you a mulligan after the first team kill. after that the victim gets a 'kick or forgive' option. this is fair and balanced. of course, with spies, double agents and traitors we're hoping players have the ability to change their status from blue to red after the first team-kill. maybe those savvy enough wont kill the same person twice or might convince the victim it was an accident. the politics of it will help gameplay.
either way we'd like to see everything setup around a FF system. |

Also prevents tactics like have a squad in militia pin down the enemy in cgc, then kill them all from orbit. In this example team mates would now that was plan I hope, or leader may have a mutiny.
Splash damage needs to be FF=on everywhere. A forge gun or mass driver at point blank can kill the user, but not his team mate?
A aimed weapon could have a interrupter switch. The real life interrupter gear was invented in WWI so a machine gun could fire through the propeller, it would stop firing as the blade passed in front of the barrel. Concord could have a similar system in hisec, instead of no damage gun won't fire at friendly like the safety is on. This should be hitscan, so a weapon with travel time and/or bullet drop could still hit friendlies, melee would also still work. Player corps war dec'ed with each other that are on same team in hisec match should have ff=on.
In lowsec, this could be player disabled, but team kills are kept in log for corp leaders to see and may affect standings with factions, lower sec status also.
Null would allow full full friendly fire, but still record team kills in log for corp to evaluate. Maybe only log team kills of players in blue corps, not neutrals on same team.
Glossary of eve terms hisec: safe area, built up area of the main npc factions low sec: npc controlled area with more player freedom and faction war null: lawless space player corps control war dec: formal declared war registered with concord that allows fighting in high sec without intervention concord: npc police, similar to united nations in real life Standing: how npc faction views player, player corps can set to make allies blue and enemies red. |

I'm gonna nerd out here so you've been warned.
This far into the future FF doesn't really make sense to me. With shields being readily available and the size of the arms in use, it makes little sense why my laser rifle would injure a team mate when he could be running the same shield frequency that my laser rifle operates on. This would negate all damage. Some one else brought up how the hitscan would cease firing so the friendly wouldn't get hit at all, that's also a solution to the blue on blue problem we have today.
I could understand splash damage to a degree and even perhaps melee, but really when we are talking about weapons that rely on similar technology that shields are based on I don't see how FF adds anything to DUST 514 other than appeasing the casual player that gets upset at his squadmates. |

snipers on my squad/corp i wont teamkill but randoms for sure. Not bothered with idiots on skirmish who just sit in their redline trying to snipe. Ambush i might not do it cause i would cut down our own clone reserves. If you dont contribute in a objective based game then you deserve to be backstabbed. maybe im gonna put some SP into nova knifes just for that.
And in my opinion FF shouldnt be on for normal weapons like assault rifles. But for weapons with splash damage maybe. After all this is set in the future and i think that our weapons can identify friend or foe. Like shoting a team mate the weapon damage drops to O. i would like a feature from a old online game called Metal Gear online. You could shot your team but the weapon gets a lock for a couple of seconds and a warning of friendly fire on top. |

I don't care one way or the other if friendly fire is on, however I do like the argument that weapons would be programmed or attuned to shield systems to not be hit. That is a cool idea.
I do however think that orbitals and any weapon with splash damage should hit friendlies and foes alike.
The only real problem I see, is the amount of griefing that will ensue. Two days ago I was defending an objective and had a friendly jump out of a LAV and land it on top of me, when I was picked up by another team mate, same person ran me over with the LAV again. Hooray for teamwork right?

I"m unsure of the requests of this thread. It was mentioned FF is ON in null sec.
I haven't played eve past a few trials, so I'm unsure of where the bulk of the battles will lie. However, high sec should definitely have FF off, similar to a normal(high sec) vs. hardcore mode(null sec).
What I would like to see, is possibly the ability for a corp to choose if FF is ON or OFF in low sec. A FF-ON game mode when searching for a game would suffice too.

If you keep doing it, even if you keep f**ing up, you SHOULD be marked. WOT deducts coin and exp every time you hit a friendly tank, and marks you after you've destroyed a few. No one wants to be around a guy who doesn't know FF is on.

FF ON.
This is the community consensus. Given the type of player that is attracted to DUST, EVE, New Eden it's unimaginable that when the game goes live, FF is disabled. It will pollute people's idea of what New Eden is. It will send the wrong message to visitors during their very first moments in New Eden.
We know why: CCP doesn't want team griefing to ruin the new player experience in hisec pub matches.
Our job as Beta testers is twofold:
- We need to make sure that CCP gets the message re FF ON. Loud and clear. Give CCP your opinion, and tell them why you feel that way. Make it short, sweet and to the point.
- We need to throw alternative ideas at CCP. Good, bad, half-baked - doesn't matter. The other peeps on this forum or CCP themselves will refine your idea if it has merit, or hybridize it with somebody else's idea or use the two ideas to synthesize a whole new and better way of looking at the problem. The point is, if FF ON is important to you, you gotta think of a way to solve the FF griefing problem and then tell CCP about it.
My proposed solution is this:
- Any merc must be able to kill any other merc in any situation. That's New Eden.
- FF-Team and FF-Squad kills on every merc's public record. Let the solution to team killers come from the community.
- Allow squad leaders to set a FF-to-Enemies killed auto-reject filter for squad membership.
- No warpoints ofc for FF kills. Tempted to ask for a WP penalty but something doesn't smell right about that approach - can't verbalize it right now.
My merc hates rules so I'm gonna stop there. New Eden is no place for unnecessary rules. |

shield frequencies might work for beam based weapons but on projectiles? i have a hard time wrapping my head around that. and the safety stops the weapon firing? i think that requires the greater fix. because then we're talking about your weapon not idischarging if a friendly crosses your path for an instant. having a weapon locking up because it thinks you're friendly firing would be a source of heavy frustration if this system is used. i also have a hard time understanding why tech like that would exist. it just doesnt seem like one clone would be worth technology that stops the effectiveness of weapons.
in the end its just easier, more responsible and more realistic to include friendly fire. an orbital strike can turn the ground into molten lava but wont even give you sunburn because you have a certain shield frequency? just seems off. and in regards to griefing, wouldn't a kick or forgive option resolve that?
these are good:
1)Allow squad leaders to set a FF-to-Enemies killed auto-reject filter for squad membership. 2) WP Penalty for team kills.

I want FF on for one reason and one reason only, to kill those people that sit in the red zone boosting. You know how hard it is to hit them with an LAV when you have to switch seats at the last moment?
Seriously though, I don't randomly shoot people to see if they're an enemy and neither should anyone else. Communicate and coordinate. If you can't use your mass driver without splashing your team, you should rethink your tactics.
Oh, and I will shoot you in the face the dark cloud, because you asked so nicely ^_^ Check in-game KDR before stabbing a "useless" sniper, kthxbai! |
