This isn't for those of you who feel no need to be immersed in the EVE universe and only want out of this game a place in which you can shoot stuff.
I think the warbarge needs a huge update, and I have some ideas. I know it's asking a lot, and it will take a while to do, but this would add a lot of immersion to this game and I think seriously increase it's appeal.
First off, to get to the warbarge we should have to interact with the exit of our quarters or some sort of telepad. It makes little sense that interacting with a glowy interface would magically make you appear in another place. Even if that's too much to ask then when you choose instant battle, immediately take us to the warbarge instead of setting us up for battle like happens now half the time.
Also, in the options menu give players the option to turn on or off going to the warbarge before battle. We don't want to force people to be immersed in the details of the game if they don't want to be. I don't think people being taken to the barge first will be too big of an issue since half of the time we are taken to the warbarge before battle anyway, but better to give them the option than to have to hear them whine for it later.
Warbarge Alterations:
1. Increase the size of the warbarge significantly and make it a pregame lobby where we can walk around and chat/text chat, mingle, maybe form squads. This would be a good place for new players to meet up and squad up together, or find people who don't mind squadding up with new people to show them the ropes.
2. While in the warbarge allow private chat channels between players or groups of players. This will let new people ask individuals for help without being trolled in the main chat box for not knowing how to play or for being new.
3. Let us view on large screen displays similar to those in the barge now that show the leaderboards of battles going on and time remaining in real time.
4. Let corporations pay to put up advertisements inside the warbarge so people know easily when they are hiring. Corporations could put their member count and stats in the advertisment and tell people the kinds of players they are looking for or needing (snipers, LogiBros, slayers, AV, etc.). This could also be used for corporations to advertise upcoming contracts. Set up different sized displays that alternate between different advertisements, and scale the charge for the advertisements by the size of the display. Later on we could have a system set up where corporations could pay EVE players to design advertisements.
5. Put in map tables for all maps in the warbarge for now. When the game expands and there are many more maps and worlds to go to, you will be going to warbarges in those sectors to battle in that area. When that happens have the warbarges just have map table hologram displays for the maps in their sector. If at some point this gets so huge that there is a warbarge for each planet because the battlefields are just that huge and there are that many planets with maps, then put all of the map areas for that planet on the warbarge for that planet.
6. increase the number of consoles available in the barge to prevent overcrowding on them.
7. Let us walk up to those boards I mentioned earlier and choose to join the battle from there, so we can choose which battle to join instead of having to deal with being stuck joining a game as it's tallying up the score or just before it ends. I ended up getting 3 of those in a row just 2 hours ago. (...that had better not have an effect how close I am to my SP cap....)
8. After battle on the results screen ask us if we want to return to our quarters or go back the the warbarge.
9. Set up a second hand store on the warbarge where we can sell unneeded loot we have collected and items we no longer need at half price or so, and let the second hand store sell those items at a discounted price. This would help a lot of people who are having trouble saving up the ISK needed for some items. Later on down the line you could let EVE players buy and run the second hand stores to help them out in their side of the game.
10. To add functionality and for those who do not want to mess with all of this, make a menu or a menu option specifically for when on the warbarge.
Warbarge Menu Ideas
1. You can put a quick reference to the corporations that are hiring in the menu 2. Add an option where you can hit "auto-select battle" so people can just jump into the first battle available. 3. As mentioned above, private chat lines. 4. Add in a list of all ongoing battles and the time remaining for those who don't want to go and immerse themselves in looking firsthand. 5. Allow access to the secondhand store from the menu. 6. Add an option to go back to your quarters from the warbarge. It seems obvious, but since there is still no means to reach the main menu from your quarters I felt it needed to be said.
In the options menu give players the option to turn on or off going to the warbarge before battle. We don't want to force people to be immersed in the details of the game if they don't want to be. I don't think people being taken to the barge first will be too big of an issue for a people since half of the time we are taken to the warbarge before battle anyway, but better to give them the option than to have to hear them whine for it later.
I know this all sounds a bit grandiose, perhaps even a bit excessive, but from an immersion standpoint I think this would really put it over the top. And for those who don't care about immersion in the EVE universe, just turn it off in the options menu.
Alright, ready to be trolled for everything from wanting too much to remaking a thread that has probably already been written and I don't realize it. Surely I'm not the first to have this idea, I'm never the first at anything. =P But I didn't find anything, so that's my only defense. |

I have a question about basic Dust lore maybe you folks can clue me in--
When our character is in his/her quarters, is that on a station [like in EVE], or is that on a warbarge somewhere in orbit over a battle?
I thought that appearing in the warbarge before a battle was analogous to having your consciousness downloaded into a battle suit at location just before combat, and not that it was anywhere near your personal quarters, but maybe i'm wrong.
=================
but if the personal quarters are in an EVE station,. . . - then i would argue that there should be a separate lobby area for characters to OPTIONALLY congregate and meet inside a station ["open the door"] prior to being sent/teleported/cloneJumped to a warbarge over the battle site. - same as OP described, use this separate lobby area to have video screens promoting player corps to entice other players to sign up. Maybe put some mini-games in there like stand up arcades to shoot at holographic targets or something a Dusty might enjoy doing in down time, two player arcades with a daily high score, all time high score, that two players can compete at/brag about while socializing.
. . . was also thinking someday it might be cool for my Dust character to meet my EVE pilot face to face in a lobby like that, so I can screenshot/machinima it. Not that any self-respecting capsuleer would be caught dead hanging out with a lowly Dustbunny, but still--
OK now I'M the one who is gonna get flamed arg!

Sorry bro, I come with ideas but I got's no lore. I had never heard about EVE before I heard of Dust, so even my knowledge of EVE is very shaky. I was just making some suggestions that I thought would increase the player experience and give the warbarge a solid purpose and a lot more functionality. But I do have a guess.
My guess is that your room isn't in the warbarge, otherwise I believe your door would already lead out to it.
As for your consciousness being sent to the warbarge, what happens to the body when it's transferred? Without brain function the body left behind's vitals would nosedive and eventually expire unless it were maintained, in which case entering some sort of stasis pod would be necessary to have a body to return to. Therefore I stand by my statement that interacting with a glowing screen makes no sense. You would need to interact with your stasis unit.
I could agree about congregating elsewhere, but the warbarge already exists so I was kinda hoping we could improve it before we jump into making new areas for congregation.
Love the minigame idea, that could be a whole section of the game in itself. ^_^
As for the meeting yorself bit... maybe at some point when PvE is introduced this will be closer to being realized. |

I agree with you on everything except for these points below.

Press Select and scroll down to the + below squad and join/make a chat channel.

I think it would be better for them to just focus on getting the market between EVE and Dust fully functional.

Use your neocom in all other situations: Press L1 and go to battlefinder > Instant Battle OR Battle Finder > Mercenary and pick the individual battles(That functionality was there in previous builds and will be back SoonGäó.

You can even use you neocom during battle but it's a little different, press Start then L1. |

It's not really explained, but you could be right. Other possible explanations are that you character went to a teleporter or just traveled there. |

Thanks for the respond, your input, and thanks for the info! ^_^ I was suggesting an alternative to the neocom while in the warbarge because there will need to be options in that menu that won't be needed elsewhere, but now that I think about it the neocom in battle has alternate options in it that are not in it when in other places. I don't know why I was thinking you'd need a whole new menu. *facepalm*
Sidenote: Still want an option to return to the main menu from the neocom |
