Right now, there is no point in using the Nova Knives. The shotgun fulfills the purpose of close range one-hit kills better than the Nova Knives, and can be used at greater ranges than the Nova Knives. Basically, why bring knives to a gunfight? The Nova Knives are not as reliable for 1-hit kills as a sneaky shotgun to the upper body. A militia shotgun is not only more useful, but also actually cheaper than the cheapest set of Nova Knives.
An element of stealth and detection from gunshots would greatly improve the usefulness of the Nova Knives, regular melees, and other possible future melee weapons. I propose that nearby gunshots fired in one's radius shows up on one's minimap as well as the HUD overlay. The radius of detection can be around 20 meters, and maybe depend on skills, and equipment relevant to stealth and sensing. This means if you sneak up behind an enemy, and fire your gun close to him, you will be detected.
How is this relevant to Nova Knives you ask? It would make them useful; Nova Knives are not guns, therefore do not fire, and will not be detected. In such a stealth system, Nova Knives would be the perfect stealth weapon because one could use it to kill people from behind without being detected.
Such a system would open up the possibility for a new variant of guns; stealth guns. A stealth variant of a gun could remain undetected while firing within the outer region of the gunshot detection radius, but not everywhere within the radius. Example: A stealth variant SMG can fire within 20 meter detection radius of an enemy, and still not be detected by the enemy's suit, but if the stealth SMG if fired within 5 meters of the the enemy, then the person firing the stealth variant SMG would be detected. |

I'm surprised the game doesn't already have something like this, especially since any other FPS such as CoD or BF does. But yes, this does need to be implemented into the game. |

I find it baffling that a heavy with an HMG mowing people down from behind doesn't show up on the minimap or have an indicator on the HUD. You would think that firing guns would increase someone's sig profile/radius enough to make them show up on your map if you're close enough.
The heat, noise, and or electromagnetic disturbance from firing weapons (the plasma or railgun's EM field of rifles emitted when firing) would be extremely easy for the high tech sensors in our dropsuits to detect. |

You just forgot to mention that nova knives are also useless due to the movement nerf that kills any agility you would need at very close quarter. Nova Knives will be tremendous once Cloaking is implemented.
agreed though, that yeah it should be less PG/CPU than any gun. |

That is if guns deactivate the cloak, while knives and melees do not. There is still the issue of the charging of the knives, which make them impossible to use on even slightly moving targets since you can't charge the knives while running. The knives need to be able to hold the charge while the player is running, or the charge should be replaced by a cooldown. |

I agree movement means alot in a fps but instead of removing in the charge knife maybe make difference types like you have with the other weapons
Fx.
Current charge knife. Cooldown knife cooldown between each strike. Backstab knife does extra damage from the back but less then two others everywhere else. (no charge ofc) |

More knife variants would indeed be nice, but my main concern is to make the weapon actually have a purpose since right now the shotgun does its job much better, cheaper, and with less limitations. Having the charge variant would be pointless if there were others with no charge since no one would use the charge ones anymore. |

I agree that the knives need their own purpose, but adding red dots for weapon fire should not be it. While with futuristic technology, a squad could pinpoint where a shot came from depending on when the sound reached them, and they could determine what made the sound, they could not, unless they instinctively know where all their team mate are, know it was foe making the sound.
I think that adding a module for it would make it viable, but, truthfully, I really don't like the mechanic and I hope it stays out. |

Tacnet system can identify all friendly locations (like when opening the map and seeing all the friendly dots). If the locations of the friendlies are tracked, then all it has to do is ignore weapon discharge from locations matching friendlies.The technology is there.
I'm only proposing this for only a certain range, people won't spot you based on gunshots halfway across the map. |
