dudleytron:
dude, look at it like this
how many hours a year do you plan on playing fps games? you said you're an adult, you should be able to do a rough estimate to the amount of hours you play each year, give or take. at the end of the year, you are going to play the same amount of hours. playing any other game... at the end of the year you won't have much to show for it. i reference the story "star belly sneetches" in relation to what other games mean. you're a general? who cares? so is everyone else.
at least in 514 if you play for the same amount of hours you were going to play any way, you will have something tangible to show for it at the end of the year. your character will have progressed a visible and tangible amount. you will have gotten better by a margin that is measureable.
the game in it's current form isn't the REAL game. this is just a very limited mode being played by very limited people with a very limited skill set. you have not been beaten by a real clan yet. if you had been, you would have quit. even the corps as they are now are the "best of the smallest amount of people playing the game". once it goes retail, if it has legs, this game will be MUCH more brutal.
consider that we are playing what i think is "highsec" mode. ff is off, health is regen, ez mode. imagine how much more serious folks are going to be about their gear and their wins and their stats, etc. when they have pumped money and time into the game to play it well, not just bunny hop around like autodouche. all this horsecrap gameplay will be getting called out and tk'd and kicked when it counts for real. this no mic crap is a good example of why high sec and null sec are going to be like night and day in terms of game play.
joining a good corp will change your entire perspective on this game. for as bad as it feels on one end of the spectrum it feels just as great proportionaly when it's a good match with coms and team work. once it goes retail you will have a ton of players who think exactly as you do, they don't have all week to play and they still want to get in and play with a team. you guys will find your spot and it'll get better. as an adult i can only suggest to you the mantra "it won't always be like this". wait a week, things will change.
don't let the players get you down. not yet. wait til retail. then if these morons can't do anything but turn it into cod, walk away and don't look back. trust me, you don't wanna go thru another mag. friggin waste of time...

the half hours add up eventually, too. my main point is: which to you, at this point, is worth more? a weeks worth of cod played over the course of a year or a weeks worth of 514 played over the course of year? which one will you feel like you got your moneys worth from? cuz yer gonna do it anyway, so you may as well play the game you want and not feel guilty about it. and with 2013 and the economy coming at us like a runaway train, trust me, you're gonna wanna stay home and save money playing games rather then be out blowing it on crap unless you happen to be rich.
and i think that corps will need enough folks on at all hours of the day to keep things going so that even if you are on a here today, gone tomorrow player, there will still be a home for you. it helps if you are a good player, just a good fps player in general, but i think again, these corps are going to have to number in the hundreds if not thousands eventually to what this game is trying to do.
i don't think anyones gonna look at your timecard at the end of the week and fire you for not pulling your weight, though then again, some extreme clans would. but those wouldn't be fun for you anyway.
this game will take all kinds. it has to. it needs as many people as possible to keep the wheels rolling.
and remember with the 3 zones, everyone will be segregated anyway. so if you don't want to mess with the psycho clan players, you probably won't have to. and if you do, you will know where to find em.
