When I first loaded up Dust last build, I immediately went for the Scout Suit.
This is the description of the Arbiter from Character Creation:
Quote:Specialists in reconnaissance and precision combat, Arbiters are elite operatives who possess a preternatural awareness of the Battlefield.
I imagined the Scout suit would function more like the Infiltrator suit in Planetside. Which was my primary loadout in the Original Planetside.
I expected to be able to sneak around the battlefield, taking key objectives, dropping support items like Drop Uplinks, Sniper-hunting,
I expected to be forced to pack light, be fast enough to get from point A to Point B using covers and stealth. (in Planetide, the Infil suit could only carry Pistols, a Knife, Explosives, and a hacking tool.)
I expected to not be visible when I am standing still. The faster I moved, the more visible I would become.
I expected that if I got caught in my sneakiness, I would run away, or I would die.
I expected that if I engaged an enemy head-up, I would die. Heavier Armored opponents with assault rifles would hold a clear advantage over me head to head. So I would have to be smarter and outwit my opponents through stealth and positioning. and Patience.
I expected to be able to sneak up on straggling targets or snipers in the hills and assassinate them quickly before they can react, and then move on before others came.
I expected to be able to position myself in a manner in which I could give valuable intel to my team/squadmates through voice comms.
I expected that this role would take a lot of patience, and be a slow-paced sneaky style of gameplay, at least until the shooting started, at which point I'd have killed someone and then be running for my life because of it. Or I would have made a mistake and been discovered, and be running for my life because of it.
I expected to be able to use explosives to booby-trap and sabotage vehicles, or stealth to steal vehicles from under the noses of their drivers.
I expected to be the primary hacker in any battle, because I can hack faster than anyone.
I expected to be able to change the course of a losing battle, by sneaking out of a camping and working my way to and capturing a objective on the other side of the map, away from where my team is holed up.
I was highly, and still am, HIGHLY disappointed that the Scout suit turned out to be little more than just a lighter assault suit made for bunnyhopping and circle-strafing. Thus, I decided to play Logistics instead.
So while everyone is saying that the scout suit is useless now because of the strafe speed nerf, for me, the Scout Suit has ALWAYS been useless.
and without real stealth, not some vague "signal profile reduction" that may or may not work, it will continue to be useless.
just my silly scrub opinion, anyway.
heh. typing me makes me want to give the Scout another shot. dunno, if I will though. |

eh, I'm neither here nor there on the strafing and jumping.
But I want stealth on the suit. real, tangible, "You can't see me unless I am running" stealth.
and if they are going to keep the strafe speeds the way they are now, the Scout suit NEEDS stealth anyhow. |

Nothing says "fun" like half a team of invisible snipers, amirite?
But but you got teh mad gunplay skills so it shouldnt matter right? You can circle strafe the bullets with your gunplay skills. besides, nobody in the game can aim and shoot and hit you except you bunnyhopping dancers, so what are you concerned about?
A more serious answer:
No, invisible snipers are not fun. Naturally there would have to be some sort of tradeoff. Like a Scout suit variant that foregoes a light weapon slot in favor of 2 sidearms and stealth.
Boom, no invisible snipers. they turn the strafe speed back up to Unreal Tournament levels, you get your bunnyhop tip-toe tango "gunplay", I get my stealth, everyone is happy. amirite? except the people who "can't aim" I guess. |

Fivetimes Infinity wrote:The game is unfinished. Cloaking is coming. The scout suit description specifically mentions it being designed to use cloaking devices effectively. So uh, wait out.
This was already understood.
I was answering a question Baal Roo asked me in another thread, what did I think the Scout suit was designed for.
I always thought it was designed for Stealth gameplay. |

I can confirm that the Profile dampeners do work.
I've had several people stroll right on past me. and then after I shoot them from behind and they die I am like "He really didn't see me? at all?" I am only using the Militia Profile Dampener + The bonuses from Dropsuit Command for now.
mostly when I am still, and crouching though. I wonder how much crouching and crouchwalking affects your scan profile. |
