Hi,
I've recently been posting in the technical support/bugs section as sadly I am a victim/casualty of YLOD (Yellow Light Of Death), which for those that do not know (and I didn't until a few hours ago), is something that kills your PS3.
After some researching, apparently, whilst not being a 'common' fault, it is one that occurs with some regularity. So much so that there are numerous You Tube videos and Console fixing services dedicated to it.
The primary cause of the issue is overheating. Overheating causes the soldering to melt and thus components disconnect from eachother.
As I mentioned at the start, this has happened to me and now my PS3 will not turn on. Part of me is blaming CCP and part is blaming Sony. Either way, it's broke and I have to buy a new one or try and fix it.
That said, I had read a few times in places people being concerned with overheating and with stability of builds and of course, people suffering from crashes.
Well... firstly, if these are happening to you on a regular basis, then I just want to emphasize that whilst it might not kill your system, it certainly is capable of doing so.
Based on feedback, it seems particularly bad on this build, which is a shame as I was loving this build up until this afternoon.
What I would like to know from CCP is if they can improve their builds to avoid what is a well known fault with PS3's, in particular the fat ones (all apart from the slim).
I appreciate that this will unlikely affect to many others and that I am perhaps just plain unlucky, but I was really starting like the game, but clearly, even if i fix the machine, I can't risk playing it again until I know things are much more stable.
So.... CCP, whilst I'm not looking for you to accept that it was your fault (as I'm not entirely sure it was), are you able to recognize that between your build and the Playstations weakness's, are you going to be able to produce a build that will work across the board?
On a side note, just to cover the people that say I used the machine to long. The initial crash came after just 20 minutes of play and the one this afternoon came after just logging into the game. My system is used to running for long periods of time due to streaming movies through it.
Regards

Thanks.
Mine sits in a nice cabinet.... open fronted, but a cabinet none-the-less.
Guess I'll have to buy a cheap fan to blow air in and I read in my other thread that someone uses bottle caps to lift the PS3 off the shelf a little more.
Also.... whilst you are all helping so nicely, would you advice paste or pads when i replace the old stuff?
Of the two most popular You Tube videos, one uses paste, the other uses pads............
Also.... my understanding of the situation was that it was the soldering melting that caused the problem, is this directly caused by poor conductivity from the thermal paste or is that likely just one cause of the problem?
