It all starts with MAG (yes i said it). I love this game, it was genuinely a very fun game and I logged around 1400 hours into it, more than any other video games I played combined. Truly amazing game.
When people started talking about MAG dying it was hard to believe, but when clans started falling apart and good friends we met on MAG stopped coming on or started playing rarely, it all became real.
It was around this time we heard about Dust, and slowly through the course of many MAG group gaming sessions that would go into the night, the word spread. The word of a "hardcore" dynamic shooter tied in with an MMO game, where your actions would truly make an impact and clan(corp) support would be immense. To us it sounded like heaven. "This might be MAG's replacement" we said. For a game to truly replace MAG would be incredible for us.
After hours of in game and forum discussion on Dust the MAG community began to support this idea, we really want(ed) this idea to work. This is why you see SO many MAG players playing this beta, why clans from MAG are taking over the Dust corp scene, this is our last hope. Is my dream coming true?- I remained optimistic ever since hearing about the game, and even when joining(of course with initial dissapoitment) the beta in June. My inital dissapoitment dissapeared when I told my self "its just a closed beta, its got a long way to go". But after months of playing, I cant say I've seen much improvement for the amount of time that has passed. The "its still beta" excuse is becoming decreasingely valid. I now feel that this game might not replace the epicness of playing MAG.
But there is still hope, and I believe this lies in community interaction. Corp and economic warfare could completely out weigh the bad FPS mechanics for me. I joined up with the Entropy Virus community to experience a community with a unique outlook, that has the potential to yield some crazy fun gameplay. But overall, I hope that CCP dosent **** up too much with balancing and continues developing corp gameplay and this could turn out to be a great game. I am not playing Dust currentely, as I am studying abroad, but I am carefully following all the developments of the game and the community.

I didn't want it o be like MAG, BF3, or any other shooter out there. What I did want was something fun that I would enjoy playing it's none of those. So no the game is not what I expected it to be and it wont reach the expectations I have either. This beta is horrible it's been in Dev for over 3 year and this is the best they got . |

Player made corps this build, I feel, is the first big step towards making my vision for Dust come true. I have been through three builds now and eatch one has brought the game ever closer to what it needs to be. Is Dust right now what it needs to be to keep me hooked? Not quite yet, but like yourself, I feel that CCP is heading in the right direction. Longevety has always been CCP's strength, so I hold out for our big pay off on Dust... Even if it may take longer than most are willing to give it... |

As someone who knows how slow the "real world" works --- I am enjoying this beta and the experience to provide feedback to help shape Dust 514 is my own small way. I believe it will live up to its potential.
IMO, the mistake CCP made is not that they bit off more than they could chew, rather it is they did not create a message that manages expectations. By this I mean that in hyping up this game with all that it could be, people expected to have these things sooner rather than later.
I still believe that in a year or two from now this game will be great and have all the things we all want and will "play" like a good FPS, the interesting thing will be how CCP goes about getting people to play it after some played it and were disappointed. |

I'm sort of mixed when it comes to, the way I envisioned it. Yes, I was interested in the game play, but what enticed me to it more than anything was that it was established in the EVE universe. With that said, and I'm hoping, it'll be more open. The ability to go to any planet or ship or space station and do more than just firing a weapon. If it doesn't have any type of free roam, then its no different than any other FPS out there. Heres to hoping, but I'm not going to get my hopes up to much.
I know it's an FPS, and it's main point is to shoot people over and over again, but if your going to bring it into a universe filled with thousands of planets, there has to be more than just shoot'em up action. |

Overall, this game is improving. Please forgive CCP for the slow pace of development as they are not known to create any FPS game. They are a MMO game company after all that built an internet spaceship game. Their only experience when developing avatars that you see in the merc quarters now is because of their experience with Incarna for Eve Online (see link below).

On the plus side, their avatars are considered to be one of most accurate renditions of the human body so far. If you look at other games, so few games like MASS EFFECT show accurate proportions of the human body.
In comparison to the prior builds, the Codex Build is showing promise where once there was none. Prior builds had their ups and downs, but Codex has helped boost my morale and I can finally see hope. However, I have to remember that even upon launch of the game to the global market, the game will be on permanent beta just like Eve Online and thus will only see marked improvement over time (as in years from now).
Eve Online has been improving since its launch back in 2003 and people didn't think much of it. Back then, X3 and other spaceship games like Nexus: The Jupiter Incident tried to take over the market, but both crumbled as Eve Online took over as the Alpha of the genre. Eve's cut-throat, openly-player-driven market, and elected player representatives has helped Eve Online become one of the best MMOs out there.
Ultima Online and Perpetuum tried to overcome Eve, but both also failed where Eve succeeded. Besides, it was later discovered that Perpetuum was based on an old stolen code reverse engineered from Eve Online. Since then, Eve Online's code has been completely replaced with a more secure and stable platform such as CARBON (CCP's proprietary game architecture).
Now imagine the same for Dust 514. |

CCP knows how to recover. If you read up on what happened to CCP back in 2010 shortly after the Jita Riots and Monoclegate, you will know what I mean. Since then, every other expansion after Incarna has won back the hearts of some who quit. Of course, there are still less-than-optimistic people out there. |

Expected it to look more tech heavy, seems ok at the moment. Only problem is the idea of fighting in an isolated area of a planet and not within a massive stronghold or broken down cities. -_- |

not when i signed up but a while ago. a ground breaking game that was going to be developed by a great company. nope it's turned into a shitfest made by seemingly stupid people who care nothing about gameplay only hitting a deadline with quickfixes.
p.s im not the forgiving type. how much different can an exel base game be to an fps? |

If CCP was stupid, Eve Online wouldn't have the impact it has now on the MMO market. Guild Wars and WoW are now scared of Eve because of CCP. Of course, like I said, please forgive them because this is the first FPS game they have developed and it will take time. And by time, I mean years. And that's no exaggeration. |
