Same thing happened to me mate and my PS3 is dead.
It's called the YLOD, (Yellow Light of Death) and is the PS3 equivalent of the RROD(Red Ring of Death on 360)
Basically this build is borked beyond belief and as I stated in other threads is seriously damaging PS3's. It's doing something that's making the PS3 get hot and it's crippling the PS3 inside due to heat created.
I'd strongly advise that anyone experiencing FPS drops and stuttering on voice comms to shut the PS3 down and give it a break. I guarentee if you keep it going it'll fry.
CCP obviously wont admit there's an issue here so I'm making it clear to everyone that there's definately serious risk to your hardware this build. |

Mine was a 60gb launch model and the Blu ray had gone a while back, but it's well known that Sony used cheap Blu Ray diodes in the early models and they last about 2 years max then burn out.
Both the 20gb and 60gb launch models used lead free solder that melts at a low level, I think the same goes for the 40 and 80gb versions. The only ones without it are the slim models.
If your using a fat PS3 be very wary of heat build up as the main reason for a YLOD is heat de-soldering you GPU/CPU or cracking the thermal paste for them as that's crap too in the fat models. They're all a ticking time bombs due to Sony cutting corners to make the PS3 cost effective.
It could of been my PS3's time to go, but the fact I've seen at least 3 people mention this now rings alarm bells to me.
I strongly advise taking huge precautions this build tbh, there's something horribly wrong with it imo. |

You mean it's the voice comms doing it?.
Your post is of little help to the issue quite frankly. |

Indeed Jax, but I doubt they'll even acknowledge this.
I mean I don't expect compensation as this is beta and that EULA practically means we don't have any come back, (which I'm looking into tbh as I'm not sure it'll be totally covered by UK law, but I'm not holding my breath. These things are usually water tight.)
All I'd like is it made clear, in black and white that there's a serious hardware breaking issue with the game at present and what causes it and what to look out for.
As Jax hax stated my PS3 used to be usd for movies too for hours, but I also gamed with what PSN downloads I could and never had any issues with hours of play. The fan stayed quite after the initial boot up, as it tends to be loud then quieten down. |

Oh and Jax, mine worked a bit before I got the total YLOD. It didn't last long enough on to run the HDD scan, so I didn't risk doing that in case of further damage and elected to clean it. It then gave the full YLOD instantly like you have now.
I'd be careful running that safe mode if it's going to cut out mid process due to an over heat. I know this doesn't help your situation, but it may actually do more harm if it gets part way through the process and reboots.
I'm going to look into re-seating the CPU/GPU and cleaning it even more thoroughly. Other than that it's gonna be a case of forking out for a new PS3 or sharing my brothers as I am now.
Frankly though I don't want to risk his console, but it is a slim model so heres hoping it's a bit more robust with getting rid of heat. I'll be giving it regular breaks anytime I get FPS drops though.
The symptoms are very similar to when I had a PC GFX card that was over heating, it's practically the same scenario. |

Jimbo Boilstaff wrote:Ive had to stop playing this build....
I'm convinced it's affecting the stability of other games (just got Hell Yeah from ps+ and its stuttery at times just like dust)..... although can't prove it's the case.....
has anyone else noticed problems that appear to be related to dust that arent solely crashes or YLOD's??
Is yours one of the older fat models Jimbo? |

As Dzark says, it''s the only thing you can try really without a bit of tech knowledge.
It's gotta be worth a go imo. |

Sony will offer to fix it for about 75% the cost of you paid for the thing. They offered me the same when my Blu Ray went, I told them to jump.
You may be able to find a local computer shop that might be able to help, but they're few and far between tbh. Most computer shop guys don't even know enough about computers, let alone consoles unfortunately
The other thing you could do is look up YLOD and fixes on the web. Some of them are bizarre so be wary of anything that says using towels and blocking vents to make it get hot. Same goes for turning the PS3 upside down, it's just inverting the flow of air so the thing overheats very quickly. These will likely just fry your hardware. |

I'm totally with you Jax, but the thing is both Sony and Devs have covered there asses with various Eula's and such making them untouchable in most cases.
It's a ****** situation, but one I can't do anything about. |
