We had one hard lockup so far (lag induced), instead of 30+ last build (for me, maybe half of that for my GF, on her brand new system). Since codex we have successfully joined every battle as a team, instead of 1 in 10 matches previously. We don't need to restart the game every second match. We got booted of match maybe two times. We can actually have some coherent game now. Hit detection is better as well.
That said there are some problems. The biggest one is lag. Lag freezing up your console to a point where it needs a hard reset. Worse: it's not network related, either client or server problem. Movement speed is laughable and if that was the fix for hit detection then it's a shame. I don't see difference between Assault and Scout now, so Scout is only good when I'm feeling lucky. This combined with better HMGs makes pair of Heavy/HMG+Assault/AR a deadly duo for light infantry. As in "you will not feel a thing" deadly. SP farming -- well this is just silly. OB spamming -- again silly. Black bodies on white fog. Pushing people around, to a point where your mates can actually push you away from the objective you're taking, WTF? Random spawn is "great" when enemy appears in front of you facing away. It's not so fun on the receiving end -- dying from AR fire before I'm able to move three times in a row (different locations!) made me LOL yesterday. And curse. A lot.
I'd say a step in the right direction, with one critical flaw and few glaring regressions. Yeah, not ready for open beta IMHO.
I agree with this post here. Also would like to note that although this is a better build...as in more stable better hit detection....the gungame itself has suffered on this build. When there is no difference in the normal movement speeds among heavies, assault, scout, logistics then you know something is definately wrong. Straffing needs to be put back where it was. I think a correct fitting can give you an advantage in a certain situation but it should be something that a skilled player can overcome as well. Right now if an assault player turns a corner and runs face to face into a heavy with an HMG the assault will almost always die unless the heavy is just horribad. Before the assault player could at least try to outmaneuver the heavy but now that they have the same straff and regular movement speeds its almost impossible. I dont want this to be just another "tactical shooter" we have too many of those. This has the potential of being one of the best arcade shooters ever. I know that personally if all the bugs are fixed and this goes out but they dont fix the movement speed and gungame there is no way I would be playing this game. Right now its just not fun at all.
That being said I am not sure why Xiree is talking so much about Halo in this thread. I agree you could argue that Halo 2, 3, ODST, ect are not good games but Halo CE (the first one) was amazing. I would easily put Halo CE in one of my top 5 FPS of all times. I played this on friends systems and I got it for the PC and this game is just amazing (in many ways it still is even today). When I think of a tactical shooter I always compare that game to Counterstrike to see how good that game really is.......for an arcade shooter I always compare it to Halo CE as I think it is definately one of the best arcade shooters. But that is my personal opinion. |
