Do you prefer a game with ballistics calculation that requires you to lead your targets, or hitscan (game calculates position of both parties at the trigger pull and assigns damage if the cursor is lined up)? |

trying to predict where the enemy is going to move next while being unpredictable at the same time is fun to me It is for me too, but I'm curious to see how the community will weigh in on this. |

Nothing made me happier than playing MAG with a .50 cal sniper and picking some dude off in a dead sprint from 120+m because I had to lead the target. Assault rifles are another issue with this hitscan thing. I can understand if you are right on top of the target being able to just keep the crosshairs on it and do some serious damage, but from some of the distances that you can shoot with fully upgraded sharpshooter and proficiency skills there should be some travel time for the projectile, not this point and click buisness. It's far too easy to point and click kill with this hitscan system, especially because of the aim assist (should be removed completely) You can't remove the aim assist with KBM as a control option or we'll never hear the end of the whining. If their was travel time for rounds, you'd have to have your cursor off the target anyway, so aim assist wouldn't factor as much. It would help you track targets at close range, but wouldn't assist you as much at medium-long range where you don't even need it anyway. |

If they were able to fix the KBM to where it was actually usable, it would be alright. I've played many pc shooters without aim assist with no issues, reason I went back to DS3 for dust. I should have stated that I was talking about the close quarters and short range tracking part when I was mentioning aim assist, and longer range when dealing with travel time for rounds as the travel time to hit a close range object would be significantly less and thusly you might not actually have to lead said target. Right, the travel time is negligible at close range. The other thing of note about this is that the hitscan mechanic is part of what is making this game so sniper friendly. Notice that virtually no one uses the Experimental rifle due to not only its lower damage, but also that they actually have to lead their targets. Right now a sniper is very hard to close on due to them only having to put the dot ahead of you and then pull the trigger as soon as it turns red because the round has no travel time. If snipers had to lead their targets, you'd see far less people using that as an easy way to get kills, and more people putting the effort into that specialization to be a real asset to their team. |

Exactily, and those who did still specialize as a sniper could actually be considered an asset to their team because they took the time to learn how to snipe properly instead of waiting for the "shoot light" to come on. All this just reinforces the argument for ballistics over hitscan. I fully support this thread! [Edit for drunken typo] [Edit again and disregard this post because I just read it again and realized that I drunkenly posted your last statement in almost the exact words agreeing with you] I'm going to bed... Happens to the best of us man, no worries!

Iron Wolf Saber wrote:Just so you know this game has a combination of both going on. right now there is a sniper rifle in milita catagory labeled experimental. give it a shot. I haven't tried it out yet, but I've heard about its mechanics. Sounds like sniping in Planetside 2.
KripnawtiQ Prime wrote:I like the idea of a sniping player having to put forth some effort to get that OHK. Unfortunately no matter what system a game developer chooses to use for its sniping mechanics its never enough to discourage players from doing it. A guy could have zero kills ten minutes into a match and hes still camped out somewhere drinkin a beer while he watches through his scope as his team is getting pounded. I'm not saying that it should discourage that, but that it should encourage it as a specialization and not a fallback. |
