With the recent character reset, I decided to roll with something new this build instead of continuing on as Logi like I had been. I happened to pick Heavy this time around and was planning on making a Heavy anti infantry load-out based around the HMG.
Problem is, I can't figure out how I'm supposed to make use of it.
At any range I try it at, I find myself taking down opponents slower than if I had just stayed logi with an AR. At close range I find myself just switching to the SMG because it's more reliable than the bulky HMG.
Am I missing something? Do the HMGs get that much better as you level up your skills?
Help would be appreciated. |

I find this gun better for support at medium range. And it is godly for multiple enemies at close range. I am a scout but I have an alt specced into HMGs.
Know your range and use cover. LURE THEM IN. Pop out, take a few hits, go back into cover, and they will instinctively throw all their grenades and start coming toward your position, be crouching and waiting and shred them.
Your advantage is your weakness. Your speed. People think because you are a heavy, you're going to have a forge gun or try and run. Make your stand and let the bullets rip.
At medium range it's a tad worse, use it in a squad to keep the enemy saying "Oh f*** I'm pinned down help me." And when their buddies come up, you have had just enough time to go to the flank and light up their entire squad.
It's a tricky play style. Play with it like a shotgun that has a little bit further range. |

Nope you hit it on the head.
It does take some getting used to. But it is more for fun . The ar is the only gun worth using at the moment. Hmg got needed again. |

I've been rolling the HMG build for a while and daym people are dropping like flies in close and med range. long range and blobs are what get me sadly though but eh thats the way it's suppost to be..... hell I had one match where it was total chaos at one of the letters there were like 7-8 red dots and 1 green(myself) and I beat them course there was an OB that took out 2 of them for me..... but really I was expecting a nerf the HMG threads to be everywhere. I'm ripping people up and they can't do much to stop me besides throw nades at me I've died more times to nades then I have to AR's they know they gonna die so they try and kill me with a nade (which btw must have gotten some kind of buff as they weren't this powerful last build)..... |

I was deep HMG last patch. Go AR or shotgun. Unless the HMG or the heavy drop suit got some serious buffing it is a waste of skill points. |

As a merc who specialized on Heavy/HMG since build 2 i would say the HMG in this build is better (ofc Replica HMG takes the cake) the increased RoF and clip size felt like the HMG got a damage buff and now the HMG is a reliable gun.
To OP: the HMG takes a while to get use to just keep practicing with it and try aiming at the upper part of the body when in cqc don't forget the gun gets more accurate when spooled up. When in head on fight move forward toward your enemy to make sure most of your bullets hits and straf while leading your target to make up for the slow turn speed of the heavy suit.
Too bad the heavy suit still needs works the survivability of this suit is far from where it should be, they need to buff the armor or gave it some sort of passive resistance. A militia heavy suit should last longer than a militia assault when they are shooting at each other head on. Anyway am glad they fixed the HMG (still there is a room for improvement) and i hope they listen to our feedback and start working on the suit.

Sweet. I rock as Heavy, it's just going to take some practice to get into that mindset in DUST.
Thanks for the pointers man.
