I haven't gotten a chance to play the new build yet, slept after work instead of playing (Long weekend with the Return to Ravnica prerelease). So I was hoping to get some feedback regarding the skills that increase your suits native scan properties (Radius, Resolution, Signature).
Are they showing any noticeable change in your minimap? Will I have to put in an active scanner regardless in order to get anything decent on my map? Do enemy units discovered via scan show up on my teammates minimap or just the ones I have LOS on?
LogiBro here and figured if the passive skills are decent that I would increase my support role so I'm providing intel as well as reps/revives |

it's not really a logi only skill set. from what i seen is that there are 3 new skills involving signature profile and signature resolution(name) signature profile is the suits ability to be detected the lower the better. resolution is the chance to detect other suits. there is a skill to equip modules to give you more resolution or to lower your profile. along with radius to increase the distance of your scan and increase the resolution fall off.
there is also an active scanner that i haven't tried yet because i am still playing around with stuff figuring out what i want to be. |

Return to Ravnica? MtG?
I skilled up to active scanners, threw one on a ski weave logi and ran around pulling the trigger.
Not much happening. In fact, besides the opening & closing of the device while holding it up in front of me, I get no game feedback that anything is happening.
The base model active scanner has a 45 scan resolution. It says it will detect infantry, vehicles & installations. The scan res must be lower than the targets scan profile to get a reading. At least that is how I read it.
I got no readings of infantry on my mini-map while trying it. There may have been no enemy infantry in range 75m. Or the ones in range may have had lower profiles than my newb skills could detect.
I plan on skilling up all of the related skills and giving Scanning feedback here.
I wouldn't mind getting out of the Healthcare business and into the Electronic Warfare industry. Nano injectors still suck |

yeah a advanced logi can really stock a lot of scan mods and gives great passive intell to the group. The active scanner is cool too, but not as cool. I can't wait for command dropsuits!
also new remote mines are awesome. |

Yes, MTG. Went on a 48 hour prerelease binge and it wiped me out.
Back to scanning, I was planning on getting to IV with all of the passive skills, not sure about sacrificing a slot for the active scanner for now, doesn't seem to do much. |

It'd be nice to get some indication of any indicators that are revealed by an active scanner. Maybe something like they blink for a second or have a bracket around them or something.
Just so you know your active scanner is doing any good or not. |

I'll be checking in here a bit to see how everyones testing progresses (I'll likely be training some scanning skills after I get my tank skills a bit better, and it'd be great to know what to expect).

I upgraded my passive sig. reduction skill to III and was able to run right behind people with them having no clue that I was there. So either I was undetected on the minimap, or I just was stalking some really unaware tunnel vision players. |

Heard it battered around the forum that unless there is LOS from someone, there is no DOT. Wondering if the skills reduce distance that LOS gets on you in regards to minimap, or only against active scanners... |

Ok, I ran an active scanner tonite. I can see the flash and hear a faint sound ( I presume this is the magnometronic energy blah blah). And once or twice ( out of dozens of attempts) I MAY have seen a red dot appear when one wasn't there before
I can't tell if the scanner projects a wedge of scan energy I can't tell if the scanner is active only for a moment ( point and click) or constant (while I hold the trigger) I think red dots caught within 75m in front of me seem to light up brighter
The mini map is rather small given the kind of tactical data I need Still not sure if the device is working as intended and my skills or technique are off
Gonna be working on all the scan skills further but omg making isk and sp is difficult as logistics.
Oh, and CCP, thank you for the minor mass driver buffs....they may not be enough for me to stick with this weapon at launch let alone a third full build. |

Your build and mine are sounding alike. Today I too tried the active scanner. I don't understand how it works. Should I hold the button down or release? It's all confusing. It seems that whatever is red I would have seen anyway. Nothing new shows up. This baby definitely needs work. It's very unsatisfying.
Crazyspace mentioned that passive scanners will relay Intel to the team . Is that in fact true? From the description it seems that the benefit stops at your dropsuit . |

True, the passive scan skills are your skills exclusively, but what you see - your team sees, broadcast to everyone's map. That why you have map intel while getting ready to spawn in

Not much scanner use last nite. The equipment isn't earning it's space in my 2 slots
I did train long range scan to II and got qualified for one of those scan booster mods. Ran a game or two with that
Still hard to discern whether 10% scan precision is appreciable given my low skills.
Will continue to test more tonite |

The base Active Scanner's Precision isn't even powerful enough to pick up a Militia Scout dropsuit - to be honest. It's going to take quite a bit of skill to start noticing a difference with their usage.
Profiles: Scout - 45 Assault/Logi - 50 Heavy - 65
Precisions: Scout - 45 Logi - 50 Assault - 55 Heavy - 60
It's assumed that you have to have lower precision than your target's profile and there are a lot of factors at play here that sort of throw the game in favor of -not- being seen.
Profile Dampener modules have a higher reduction than Precision Enhancers:
Basic: 15% reduction Advanced: 20% Reduction Complex: 25% reduction
At which Precision Enhancers values' are:
Basic: 10% Advanced: 15% Complex: 20%
There are also two skills at play involving your Profile size - Dropsuit Command and Profile Dampening. Both of which give a 5% reduction per level.
There is only one skill that reduces your precision - Profile Analysis which reduces it by 5%.
At a certain point, with certain skill levels, you will almost -ALWAYS- be able to go "invisible". Scout suits, with the right skills, can't even be picked up by Prototype Active Scanners and with both skills at level 5 they can't even be picked up by a scout with Profile Anaylsis level 5 and a Prototype Precision Enhancer.

Agreed i just recently tried to use active scannertoo as part of my build, but after i use it .... nothing special happened, not visible spots on map where i were aiming, not single noticing signal, sometimes i even point somewhere click shoot button .... tool opened and ..... nothing... few seconds later from same direction jump some guy out and kill me because i was obviously unarmed only with scanner in my hand...... can somebody please explain how this tool work ???? or is it just useless at this point...

There is a lot I don't understand, is it simply the following?
@If My scan PRECISION < my target's scan PROFILE
@When I look directly at the target
@Then He will appear as a red dot on my HUD/minimap
Let's imagine we keep the @If and the @Then constant, here are a few alternatives for the @When:
@When Target is in my line of sight
@When Target is in my line of sight AND I look indirectly at him - e.g. I look to within a 10 meter radius of his body.
In the case of the latter, we have another variable: the radius of the circle about his body that we need to look directly at in order to register a hit <-- Profile Radius, if you like...
@When Target is in my line of sight AND Target is within my scan RANGE
@When I look directly at the target AND For at least X seconds
There are a lot of variables here:
- My scan PRECISION
- Target's scan PROFILE
- RANGE from taget
- Profile RADIUS (see above definition)
- Length of time I need to be looking at him
- Length of time he remains red after I have looked away
I'd love to know how it is calculated, and what the skills actually do with regards to the above variables, and indeed which of the above variables come into play...and all of this without even considering active scanners!
Thanks in advance for any insight. |

Agreed, good post.
But please remember that every suit wanting to go stealth would have to fit damp modules onto itself losing a slot+fitting.
On the other hand, a single scanner user using modules can (in theory) detect MULTIPLE people all sacrificing slots for stealth mods. On that basis it is well reasonable for damp mods to be more efficient than scan mods.
Oh, and in Scan vs Damp war, if no opponent is using scan your multiple damp modules might be dead weight. A bit like ECCM mods being fitted in case of ECM.
All the above being said, I so hope that detection is NOT an absolute comparison whether target being scanned becomes visible but rather depended on the range, terrain and perhaps even weather and other external factors. |

I haven't tried any of the scanning modules, but the signature reduction mod on a scout suit makes for a darn sneaky objective hacker. I was manning a turret by D on whatever the map that we've had for the last two builds is called, and the objective was constantly getting hacked by people who never showed up on my radar.
A scout with a prototype AR could do some serious damage by flanking people. (Pump up your damage as much as you can, and don't get seen.) I just wish these new scan/stealth mechanics were easier to comprehend. (The specifics, I mean.) |
