The good:
New sounds for my AR and other new sounds all around - good work CCP. The Scrambler skills are different - its much better this way.
The bad:
No apparent improvement to hit detection and framerate issues. -Seriously? Movement and aim is chunkier than ever it seems like.
The Ugly:
Why not fix the core problems of this game before adding anything new? Are we to believe now that this is as good as it gets?

Uh, hit detection and framerates have been perfectly fine for me. Also, new things will bring glitches with them, so it's better to fix some things as they go along, until all the features have been added, THEN focus purely on the glitches. It's better and more efficient that way. |

A lot of people were upset about the random Corporation changes. I think CCP should implement a choice when you enter a new build or create a new character. Unless its there idea of balancing. If so, how do you balance a bunch a players with no stats? |

Hit detection is much better now. You might have connection issues. |

Perhaps you're right, some further research is due. To be honest; hit detection wasn't all that bad, its more the 2 frames per second when it gets busy that really annoys me. |

Clue at the top of the screen:-
"BETA - Work in progress.
Believe what you will but this is a test not the final build lots will change, depending on opinion this might be for good or bad. There's still some outstanding bugs from last build, that just means they are still working on them, the fix they put in place introduced similar bugs or they run out of time to implement the fix this build. It does NOT mean they will no be fixed.
If you haven't done BETA testing before then all i can say is. They give us some toys we test and feed back, they add in a few more toys we test some more. rince and repeat until they have a "working" game. Its not supposed to be 100% complete and bug free in BETA and if it has bugs and isnt 100% complete it doesnt mean it wont be once released. |

Agreed, while the graphics seem smoother everything felt really sluggish.

Pretty sure they have separate people doing performance tuning ;). |

I answered this in another thread:
Tarn Adari wrote:
They can't fix all problems, before they introduce new features. These new features will bring new problems and have to be tested, too. The thing you do (if you are an intelligent being) is test a given number of features until you have gathered enough data (where 'enough' is a subjective term), fix some of them during the same time, and then roll out the new features to have them tested. If you wait for all problems to be fixed before introducing the new features, you are wasting time on testing things that are already tested sufficiently (again, subjective).
In essence: CCP is doing it correctly. Your point is invalid.

I do know how a BETA works, I'm only partially stupid.
Just seems like the core gunplay is barely average compared to other shooters, this hasn't really changed at all the last three builds, and I haven't seen anything sensible from CCP on this subject. The game can be said to be playable, its far from horiffic, perhaps it simply isn't a priority. I don't see this as a "bug", I see it more as "bad initial design", for what its worth. |

I dunno if it's the hit detection or the movement speed, but my gameplay seems a lot more effective than before. |

What specific aspects of gunplay are you talking about? I have been in since July and I seen significant improvement to the FPS mechanics over the last two builds.
Standard movement through the environment is much better than when I first started playing. The controls are more responsive...considerably more responsive. There is not as much drag on the character, less hang ups on the various structures and even the maneuverability over some of the steeper terrain is better.
Weapons handling is a lot crisper. The hit detection is definitely more accurate and aiming is more fine tuned. Animations, sound and force feedback seem to be coming together to provide a more immersive experience. The game really struggled with weapons swap and even that is getting better.
The grenade mechanics started off really rough and could really affect your level of success. They have gotten much better. I no longer experience instances where I have to hit the button multiple times and when I do throw one the animation is quicker and the visual cues more distinct.
People are complaining about "strafing" but I have not noticed anything in that area of character movement. Maybe my playstyle does not rely enough on those types of movements to for it to be a factor for me.
I could go on but I think it is easy to forget from where we've come. Sure there are still various aspects that still need some refinement, like grenade aim and some of the action transitions from the sprint, but there has been significant progress throughout this Beta. It seems unfair to ignore that. Perhaps it is best to stop comparing it to existing games and start comparing it to previous incarnations of itself. |
